Hello All, Any recommendations for reasonably priced European temporary car insurance for a 4-day trip for a 20-year-old driver? Thanks

Is it their car or a hire car? Most hirers wont accept anyone under 21

What country do you want to drive in?. 21 is indeed the usual age but some countries do allow younger drivers to hire a car. However, there are additional mandatory fees to pay like a young drivers fee.

What does your current car insurer offer?

Havanananana · 31/03/2026 13:14

Read the terms of your current policy.

If it is your own car and you have insurance you are almost certainly already covered for driving in France, Germany and the EU. Coverage might be limited to third-party insurance only outside of the UK.

Sorry it’s not me, it’s for my son to drive. So should I add him or should I get a different cover? Thanks @Havanananana @AttilaTheMeerkat what’s the best option

The best option is to speak to your current insurer first! If he’s not already on your insurance, be prepared for an eye watering quote.
