Sicily in August with teens: Sciacca base and east coast overnighter ideas

We are going to Sicily this summer for a week and will be staying in a resort in the south west near Sciacca with two teens. Ideally we would like to have an overnighter mid holiday somewhere over the eastern coast so we can visit a couple of locations there. We enjoy dramatic scenery, pretty towns and cafe culture and the husband likes his historic ruins. Where would you recommend as a must do either within an hour of where we are based or over on the east coast? Also looking for quirky accommodation for the one nighter too ! ps I am
very conscious re the heat in august too so air con a must ! thanks in advance.

Siracusa / Ortigia - beautiful and with a marvellous archeological park. Or Taormina with the Greek-Roman theatre.

Taormina will be the easiest place if you only want to stay 1 or 2 nights. There are many hotels and places to stay there. You may want to consider longer though as there is a lot to see on the east cost. A visit to Etna can easily take the entire day.

On the east side of the island my personal must sees would be Etna, Syracuse, Vendicarri, Enna, Taormina and Ragusa.

Thank you both for those recommendations that’s really useful. Yes ideally would have liked longer but I panic booked our hotel for a week which is costing a small fortune so reluctant to double pay for any longer than one night really. There is still scope to amend booking though I think so food for thought !
