It’s not half term 😱 and yes but only to sunny Shropshire x

Willowskyblue · 30/03/2026 00:09

Our Sri Lanka trip was cancelled so we’re going to Nice instead. Cant wait, especially as the weather looks to be sunny and warm.

Plenty. That's why so many people have mentioned it. It's not half term. It's Easter.

Flying to the Maldives Easter Monday, not that I realised it’s Easter when I booked it as my DC are now adults. Fortunately we booked direct flights, otherwise the holiday would have been cancelled due to the war.

Exactly, that's why it's two weeks or more off school and why it's a new term when they go back

You can get 2 weeks half-term holidays in some areas and schools.

Are all those who call the Easter holidays half-term really, really bad at maths?

No where. We were skiing at HALF TERM in February, and we have A levels coming up. I have 3 days booked off as its my birthday. I'm going to vicariously enjoy all of your plans 🌞✈️

To be fair, the schools my DC at have 6 terms these days, so "half term" doesn't really make sense anymore.

Most schools have three terms and half-term break each term. Does your dc's school have breaks in between the 6 terms? What are these terms called?

The school year is structured in exactly the same always as yours, but the terms are labelled 1-6 not 1-3. We still call the 1-week holidays "half term" the same as before, it just makes no sense anymore! I know various schools that do this now, not just ours.

The whole of Kent does this. We are just finishing term 4 this week. It does annoy me because it makes the phrase half-term meaningless. I think of them as sub-terms! So the Spring term, that has February half-term in the middle and runs between the Christmas and Easter holidays incorporates terms 3 and 4.

What's even more annoying is that we now technically don't have any half-term holidays. All breaks are at the end of a term so people should be saying "half-term" less, not more.

It’s not half term…. Argh! X
