Is this a joke thread?

No! Just I’m getting bashed for my choice of holiday destination.

workingcocker · 29/03/2026 09:24

No, we went to Portugal last Easter and it rained every day for 2 weeks.

We are going in May half term instead with the hope of better weather.

Easter half term in Dubai 😎

Are you not concerned about the proximity to bombs dropping? Did you get a ridiculously good deal which has perhaps addled your mind.
You do realise that the foreign office has advised against all but essential travel which would invalidate you travel insurance . Not sure I would be going right now.

I'm going away by train, ON MY OWN 🥳 I've got an Interrail pass.

SW UK- London- Paris (night in Paris)- Nice- Ventimiglia- local train up into the hills, where I will be staying in an eco village. Looks amazing! Then 4 days hiking up mountains, down to the sea and visiting various stunning looking villages (and eating lots of French and Italian good things) before making my way back to Nice via a scenic mountain railway for the sleeper train to Paris, and back home the next day.

Would you mind sharing the details of the eco village? I'm always on the lookout for genuinely green accommodation that's accessible by train. (If you want another recommendation Hotel Henriette Stadtmitte in Vienna is doing really good things - full of plants and lovely people and they give you a generous discount for arriving by public transport)

Pretty sure that post was a wind-up given it repeated the irritating inaccuracy of calling it Easter half-term and the nonsense of anyone going to Dubai right now.

It's called Torri Superiore- it has a website. It's about 4kms from Bevera Station on the Linea delle Meraviglie/Ligne des Merveilles, this amazing looking railway (recently reopened) that straddles Italy and France, that I'm really looking forward to travelling on.

I don't actually know how I'm going to cover the last 4k- I'm intending to email them and ask about buses, but I'm completely capable of walking if there aren't any.

Thank you that's brilliant. So long as there's a safe walking place (ie not the side of a dual carriageway) that distance is walkable.

Have an amazing time

Thank you!
No, I've already looked it up on Streetview (natch 😆). It's a rural single- track road. My guess is that the majority of traffic on it will be going up to the ecovillage itself, so if any clapped out vehicles driven by old hippies approach I'll just stick my thumb out 😆

I love Easter Half term!

Easter half term, that mysterious bonus break, a magical mini holiday where plans are loose, naps are frequent and nobody really knows what day it is but chocolates are aplenty 🐣

What could be better than Dubai chocolate eggs during easter half term?

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 29/03/2026 11:03

We're at school next week.
So when you lot all return to school after the Easter holidays, we're off to Palma *with the kids who aren't at school as its still their holidays)

Any other areas going to Good Friday?

I love Easter Half term!

Any other non-existant things you want to declare your love for?

peggypegs · 29/03/2026 11:19

Going on a cruise with DH and my elderly parents. We are all keen cruisers. Dad’s been very ill and we thought we’d lose him, but he’s recovered enough to travel, incredible at age 87! So it will be quite special and I’ll burst into tears when we get on!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 27/03/2026 18:40

It’s not half term! Half terms are half way through the terms in Oct Feb and May

Exactly, that's why it's two weeks or more off school and why it's a new term when they go back

RS1987 · 29/03/2026 11:27

We’ve got a week in Hurghada, leaving Wednesday - cannot wait!!!

We are just back. Didn’t visit Auschwitz as DS is only 14 but I heartily recommend the Scindler factory (get a tour if you can) and a walking tour of the Jewish quarter. The lovely Easter market is also on the the town square. I hope you have a great visit.

My son went on a school trip to krakow, including auschwitz at 15
he has since returned with his girlfriend, it’s a beautiful city and history cannot be avoided

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/03/2026 20:42

2 nights in Dublin and 4 nights in Co. Galway.

MrsM2025 · 29/03/2026 21:00

Going to Italy in the first week (first holiday with new boyfriend!) and Marrakesh with DD in the second week

Turkey. Can’t bear the abysmal uk weather any longer. So booked a last minute break.

I love Easter Half term!

It’s the end of one term: the Easter holiday before the summer term. It not half of anything.

Kickinthenostalgia · 29/03/2026 22:38

Off to Florida tomorrow. Exciting because it’s DD’s first time on a plane. I’ve been to Florida years ago. Had my 16th birthday out there and now about to have my 38th… swimming with dolphins this time though. That’s what I told DP, no presents just wanna swim/ meet the dolphins. Just aswell because ds18 and my mum are both at home and the boilers on the brink 🫠🫠
