I’ve had a really shit few years. Really bad. Anyway…. for the first time in over 20 years I have a week to myself. Been dreaming about this forever and I have no idea what to do! I live in Devon. I don’t have lots of money but could probably spend £1,000 max including everything. I don’t want to leave the country.

So far the only thing I can think of is
driving around Cornwall staying wherever I like. Swimming, waking, visiting touristy places.

Please help me think of more ideas 😊

I expect accommodation would be expensive, but how about getting the train down to Penzance, then a ferry to the Isles of Scilly and a few nights there? I went for a day trip to St Mary's many years ago on the Scillonian ferry and it was such a lovely place. Many other islands to choose from too.

If you like being by the beach, then the obvious choices are Cornwall, Dorset or the Gower peninsula. Also these are great for hiking, find an Air Bnb and do the coastal walk from one place to the next, arranging the next night as you go. Otherwise Wales, Scotland (both if you're choosing mid-Summer, you'll be likely to have the best weather, but be prepared for anything!) or the Peak District for hiking and you'll find great pubs everywhere and it doesn't need to be expensive - just a shepherd's hut on a farm can be pretty and relaxing and will give you some space.

Join a guided walk somewhere? You could join a group so you aren’t in your own and you might explore new places and meet new people. I’ve done it and it was great. Try Exodus or Headway for ideas.

A guided walk is a good idea. Meetup has numerous hiking groups that range in fitness levels and do anything from 1-2 day hikes to a week or so away, in the UK and abroad. AAA is a good group (on Meetup), who do great hiking weekends all over the UK. Highly recommended for all ages and fitness levels.
