How many Euros for a week cruise?

I’m off on my first cruise this year, going to the Med for a week. So my 5am wake worry this morning was how many Euros to take? I’m getting off at 4 destinations, so will probably want to buy lunch and coffee, I’m not a big souvenir buyer but you never know, so how much would you take?

Not much. Pay by card for things you buy. Ask them to take it in euros if you’re in the uk-it’s cheaper for you.

None, I’d use my card (did a med cruise last year & only needed cash once, on a small ferry’s snack bar).

Not many, perhaps 100, just to have some - would use my card wherever possible and just use the euros as an emergency fund if the card wasn't accepted. If you have any left at the end of the holiday, you can always use them towards any on-board costs when you settle the balance at the end, for a taxi to the airport etc.

We always take some and bring it back untouched. Maybe use a bit for cafe tips but that's all. We always pay by card.

I be wouldn’t. Just pay by card unless you need to tip in cash on the boat. What line are you travelling with?

@PersephoneParlormaid is your cruise all inclusive including gratuities?

If not, you'll need more than you think. There are hidden costs on cruises.

• Taxes and port fees
• Wifi charges
• Room Service, Drinks (speciality coffees etc) and Tips
• Gratuity Charges including some having a mandatory gratuity on alcohol drinks. These are added to your account so you may not realise the costs are mounting up. Check if your ship covers these or if they are not applicable at all.
• On ship fees for spa, adult only areas etc
• Excursions - you can go yourself but if you book through the ship then you get a guarantee they will wait for you if you are late back.

those are all paid before you even got on unless you tip extra while onboard (and they prefer dollars anyway especially if an American cruise line)

As others have said we always pay on card abroad (Halifax clarity or.first direct) but one shop in the canaries preferred cash.
If you are likely to want to tip in a cafe/restaurant then take 100 so you don't have loads left over

If you don't hAve a credit card you can use for free abroad then give yourself a budget of £20/30/40/50/whatever a day and take that in euros

These are all things that can be covered by a credit card - most cruise lines will require you to register a credit card when you board, to cover any on-board charges, gratuities if not pre-paid, drinks, incidentals. You can often use cash for this, but it's not necessary, and most people will use a card.

The cruise is all inclusive, as I said, it’s for when I get off the ship.

100 in case you go on any excursions and want to tip your guide or restaurant staff and use your card for everything else.
