Would you fly premium or business if you have airline status?

DH has BA silver through flying with work. This means we get Biz class check in and luggage, fast track security, BA lounges, priority boarding, seat selection at booking etc.

Many of these things are what are sold with Premium or Biz class products. I can’t sleep on a flight, even in first. It’s just too noisy, even with earplugs.

That being said, and seeing ad we’re not earning £500k a year, would you bother spending your money to fly premium or biz for nicer food and seat?

It depends how long the flight is and/or if it’s overnight. For European flights, business isn’t really worth it if you have Silver (or Gold) status. For mid-haul flights (so 7-10 hours), I tend to book Premium and for longer than 10 hours I book Business or occasionally First.

No. I don’t find the extra cost of business class worth it - even for long haul. It’s so extortionate.

However if he has silver he must have a fair few Avios, if you can use those to upgrade I would do that.

I won’t pay the cost of business class. When we fly long haul it’s usually to Japan and I am happy to pay a few hundred pounds more to do that with JAL over any other airline because of their more comfortable economy class.

Business class would be an extra £3-5k per person on that route. I just can’t justify that. We’re doing an epic 80 day trip this Autumn and upgrading to business would have cost more than we’re spending on 80 days of accommodation. For me, that’s just not worth it even if I can afford it.
