Fist of all we booked flights to Croatia and the airline cancelled them- alternative flights would have cost 4 x the price
so
we booked flights to Paris and a hire car and a lovely gite
tonight the gite lady phoned and canceled becasue we had booked Wednesday to wednesday and she felt that it was unfair and wanted to us charge for 2 weeks

now we have flights, a train to bourges and a weeks carhire and no where to stay.

anyone know of a gite in the Berry or Cher we can rent? I was hoping for a quiet week- no kids just me & dh.really did not want to be in hotels.
I can find nothing online and am in despair - again

Didn't the gite owner, or website you used, state the change over day before you booked your flights? They should do.

So you still have your wed - wed flight (7 nights) and car hire booked?

The flight company should have offered you an alternative and if it is not suitable you should get a full refund.

bozza · 18/06/2008 09:44

Think that is not on. She should have said she wouldn't take Weds-Weds bookings from the off. TBH this is a major pain when booking separately because many gites are Saturday changeover but weekend flights are much more expensive.

SNoraWotzThat · 18/06/2008 10:59

did the gite owner accept your booking and later decided to cancel it, or did you put a request in for the dates and she has not accepted it? ie did you have a confirmed booking at any point? If you did have a written agreement for the booking and for the dates you wanted, it sounds very unfair if the owner then decides not to honor it.

cremolafoam, where have you gone?

Does this link help at all?

When are you going? Some places take Wednesday-Wednesday outside peak season but not during.

theyoungvisiter · 18/06/2008 12:56

had the gite lady confirmed and taken a deposit when you booked your flights etc?

If she did then I think you have to stand your ground - explain that as she agreed to the booking you have booked your flights etc in good faith and you either want her to stick to the original agreement, find you alternative accommodation, or compensate you for the loss of your flights etc.

If you have paid a deposit then you have a contract and she can't just back out without a good reason.

Depends when you are going but if it's outside the main holidays try www.gites-de-france.com. I know from personal experience that depending on the property/location/dates you can book any number of nights. This may not be clear on the website and you need to book by phone, used to be to a regional office but that may have changed. Chose a "3 ears of corn" property (or above if you can find one) and you'll be fine.

well
i booked this through gites de france and spoke to her on the phone.initially she said no problem s i booked the train and car hire . then she phoned last night all in a tis and said her husnad was upset as we were taking one weeks booking over a 2 week period.she gave me 2 options
1 to anuller
2 to pay fro 2 semaines
i had not paid anything- so i guess it is my own fau;t for going ahead and booking the train and car.
fgs i still can find nothing to stay in
dh is talking about bringing the tent.
b;oody hell.we just want to lie down for a week really.
camping isfine wiyh kids but not what i had in mind

Ref 705 here is at least a Wednesday-Wednesday rent, although would be a bit of a drive from Bourges.

PortAndLemon · 19/06/2008 00:12

Oooh! Oooh!

This place looks from the availability as though it does a Wednesday changeover -- and it's booked from 16 July but not for the week before!

SNoraWotzThat · 19/06/2008 21:16

PAL that looks nice. I think I'll bookmark it for myself. Fab location.

Kif · 19/06/2008 21:22

A couple of places on frenchconnections.co.uk

This place is gorgeous Chateau Bavolier

cremolafoam · 19/06/2008 23:39

P&L thanks you so much! That place looks amazing.dd is sick today so thats why I haven't been on here til now- so sorry for the delay!
sorry kif that is miles from where we intend to gobut will check the website for nearer ones
have also tracked down this today- but a bit pricey
have spoken to three lady gite owners today and apparently we 'most irregular' wanting to come on a wednesday.then they go away and talk to the fermier and he says 'non'- they must be so sure they can rent these places at short notice to turn down my fistful of euros.LOL
anyway this place is available but £400 for the week
