Recommendations for Slovenia base near Ljubljana and lakes for single parent and teens

I had another thread about this holiday and have now booked flights having talked ds1 into a 10 day break instead of a 7 day one. We therefore have 5 nights in Slovenia. Our flight back is very late so the last day will be driving back to Trieste and getting the train to Venice.

My plan was to stay in Ljubjana and Bled but the accommodation isn't great there that I can find. Looking on Airbnb most places seem to just have 2 double beds and, while the boys have shared beds and will do so for a night at a time, they won't want that for days at a time. I'm thinking with a car we could stay pretty much anywhere and then drive or bus to Ljjubjana and whichever lake we decide to visit. I don't want to be in the car for hours every day though.

Does anyone have any recommendations for nice areas with local walking/beauty/castles/history but also accessible to more well-known areas? Preferably with accommodation that isn't set up for 2 couples!

My husband has recently come back from Ljubljana, he stayed at the Lesar Angel hotel. I can’t vouch for it being suitable for your set up, but he said it was a really nice hotel

we had two rooms - one for 3 and one for 4 .

In Bled we stayed at Penzion Berc in the suite, the living room part is tiny though, although apparently the sofa is a bed. If staying near Ljubljana, the motorway runs down the left, so it's probably better to be on the motorway side if you are going to be day tripping frequently.

Have a look at ideal rent for car hire, they were great. WhatsApp the best way to get a response, although might be easier in low season.

As a single mum of 2 sons, with the youngest rapidly ageing out of sharing a bed with me, I'll just say that it is difficult finding one room with 3 beds, and you usually have to search and search. Have you tried booking dot com and other platforms, as well as AirBnB?

Hotel Jezero on Lake Bohinj has family rooms with 3 beds. I've stayed there alone and liked it.
