Has anyone been to Venice lately ? I've just read that a single trip costs 6.50euro plus they also charge 3.50euro for each piece of luggage !!!

DH & myself plus our 3 dc's are going and it looks like the water buses alone will cost a fortune

You can get a 12 hour ticket for 14 euros I think. Unlimited travel, so it works out really well and you can get a 24 hour one for 16 or 18 euros. Can't remember exactly but much better value than single trips.

There's also 3-day or 7-day tickets. We got a 3 day one but no-one stamped it until the afternoon of day 2, so we had it for an extra day. I think it was about 25 E for 3 days.
Buy them at the info place in the main rail station or the airport. We came by train and found we couldn't get any free maps of Venice, but luckily the one in the guidebook was pretty detailed.

We were there in August so spent much of our time on the cool water going out to nice shady islands! But the minute you escape St Mark's Square, it is pretty good.

Get the 12 hr / 36 or 72 hr tickets also have a look at the Venice Card as you might find it better value depending on what you want to go and see.
Tickets are now electronic rather than being stamped
Great guide book - Venice for Kids makes the city fun also from a childs point of view.
Cat me if you need more info on Vce.
