Why do you love the Caribbean?

Trying to get excited about an upcoming trip. What do you love about Caribbean Island Holidays?

We do a ‘drop and flop’ fortnight in the Caribbean every Feb. Just me and my husband. Obviously the weather is fab, the scenery, the swimming (we are scuba divers so do lots of that), the culture, the food, the cocktails, the safety (excluding Jamaica).

We go to adults only AI resorts, no kids is an extremely important factor.

The fact it’s not too long a flight, you get back 4 or 5 hours, generally get in at 3pm local time and feel as fresh as a daisy.

Everything! The weather, the food, the sea, the beaches.

The last time we went we hired a yacht with a Captain and chef. Much nicer than AI. We like the BVIs.

The snorkelling, the weather, the fact that they are actual islands with people living there (ie not the Maldives), easy flights, amazing beaches.

How green (the colour) it is, the excursions you can do plus lots of islands are a very easy direct flight.

OhDear111 · 18/03/2026 21:20

The best islands are not direct flights. Makes them more authentic somehow. Try the Grenadines. BequIa for example, is a gem.

Everything! Favourite holiday every year.

On the right island it’s beautiful, calm, great sea food, lots of pottering. Loved kitts and Nevis, as could wander round on own with a hire car. Didn’t like St Lucia as felt more like it was geared to All Inclusive.

I loved St Lucia I thought it was really naturally beautiful and geographically interesting. Barbados was a bit “posh” for me. Loved Antigua!! I think it really comes down to what is your personal preference. They were all wonderful though, and I’m loving trying different islands.

Love Barbados. Been four times. Can’t even describe how laid back and fabulous it all is. It’s wonderful x

emmetgirl · 19/03/2026 16:30

Love it there. Go every January just after Xmas. It’s a fantastic way to start the year!

Userengage · 19/03/2026 16:36

A lot of people don’t love Barbados when it comes to the Caribbean however I have ties to it so am pretty biased.

I’ve done all levels of board and prefer self catering, discovering new eateries and dining at whatever time I fancy.

We always hire a car and case the island, I stayed in a different district this year and encountered beaches I hadn’t known of in my 15+ trips.

Beach, food, people, chilling and blue skies.

I love that you can lie on the beach under a palm tree, with the warm Caribbean Sea in front of you to dip into when you feel like it. The sun is warm, but there’s a breeze, so you don’t get too hot. In the sea are beautiful tropical fish. To slake your thirst there are coconuts and cocktails with rum in. Plenty of fresh fish and seafood to eat, plus local dishes to try. In Jamaica I love how they give every tune a reggae beat.

St Lucia is my favourite as there’s so much to do.
