Looking to Mauritius in April (next month) to
last minute holiday with our 7 year old.

Has anyone been in April? Does it rain the whole time? I am seeing mixed reviews online..

thank you!

I have, and it definitely didn't rain every day. There were short showers but it dried up really quickly and it was quite refreshing actually. Having said that, nobody can know for sure. I have spent quite a lt of time there and they do sometimes get storms that last a few days and other times it's just overcast for a few days. It's hard to predict. Maybe avoid the south western part as that's the most mountainous and the clouds tend to get stuck there.

Make sure you fly direct and not via the middle east though.

We went at the end of March years ago. We knew it was the tail end of the cyclone season and in all honesty out of ten days I’d say it rained for about 7. However, as pp has said it wasn’t consistent rain all day, and it was still very warm so it didn’t stop us doing things. We still enjoyed the beach, the pool, a visit to the coloured sands (we were staying in Le Morne in the south west) and a dolphin catamaran cruise. We may not have done the last two activities if it hadn’t been raining so in a way it enriched our visit.

Weather in Mauritius is very unpredictable but you’d be very unlucky I think to have a complete washout. It’s a beautiful island, you can still get out and enjoy it. With a 7 year old choose a resort with lots of activities just in case you get unlucky - there are lots of family friendly resorts around.

We went in mid March last year, and had some rain most days (14 day holiday) and a couple of days were complete wash-outs. I also went in May, and weather was just like UK weather

Thanks all. That’s incredibly helpful.
