Hi
Just after some thoughts about the Dominican Republic in August. I know nothing about it. Is there much to do?
Thanks

I wouldn't leave the hotel unless on an organised trip. Coco Bongo is fun, there are also buggy trips etc. Choose a hotel carefully there are some very bad ones!

We went last May. It was nice & we stayed in what we thought was a good hotel but it didn’t blow my mind! Not really any excursions & unfortunately when we were there the seagrassum was really bad.
we had great weather though & I couldn’t really fault the hotel. We stayed at the Riu Palace Bavaro.
i think Mexico has more to do in terms of excursions.

DH went down with terrible D&V there years ago. Was really unwell. Choose your hotel carefully. I wouldn’t go back.

Went there late last year - stayed at a Dreams resort. The staff were lovely. We weren't there long and I think the food would have got a bit repetitive after a while. The food was fine but not amazing. It was all really clean - didn't get ill or meet anyone who had got ill.

Talked to people who went there 15 years ago and from the sound of it it's cleaned up its act a lot since then.

It's probably not the kind of place you'd hire a car and head out on your own exploring.

We were in Punta Cana and the sea was too rough for swimming, OK for boogie boarding etc.

We didn't see any excursions we fancied - agree with another poster than Mexico probably has more/more varied excursions.

We went on to Santa Domingo - which was surprisingly interesting for a couple of days. Lots to see in the Colonial Zone, nice coffee shops, museums, food.

The relatively short flight time and only 4 hours jet lag was a bonus.

I enjoyed it as a winter break and it's a good fly and flop choice.

Thank you all, that’s really helpful. We were looking at the Dreams Flora or Esmerelda. It’s also only for 1 week and wondering if it’s worth the very long flight!

Only place I've been and wished I hadn't!

the flight itself isn’t bad….presuming you are going from the UK? We had an early night and were fine the next day. Coming home the jet lag wasn’t great though so depends how you think you would cope with that. Took me & my youngest about 5 days to get back to normal. Dreams hotels are meant to be nice. I think Romana is meant to have better beaches than Punta Cana if that’s of any use. I only found this out when we got home.
