Anyone going to New York soon?

If so, how do you feel about it?
I’m booked to go in April and I’m a bit apprehensive. I’ve been before, many years ago, and this time I’m going with a young relative who is so excited to see it, I just hope the political situation won’t overshadow. It is an incredible city with a diverse and generally liberal population. Social problems I know, but that is true of many cities. I think it’s the risk of terrorism and the war that doesn’t feel good. But no greater risk than being in London really.
Would be interested to hear if anyone else is travelling there and what their perspective is.

We are going in May. Taking our sons and their girlfriends. We’ve been many times with our sons but this is the first time we’ve taken the girlfriends.

We have no concerns whatsoever, just looking forward to what is always a great mini-break.

I was there last week, and it was fine. What are you worried about?

We were there recently and found New Yorkers way more friendly than before, as if trying to prove not all US citizens support the current regime.
We went to visit family and would not have gone otherwise but had a fantastic time.

I have a week in Texas and a week in Missouri (both for work) followed by a long weekend in NY (for me) in 2 week's time. It doesn't worry me at all. What are you concerned about exactly?

I am hoping it will be fine, just wondering with everything going on, if it’s a good idea to go to a city where the threat of terrorism will be sky high. But I know we can’t let those fears prevent us from living our lives. I hope you have a great time, sounds fun!

The threat of terrorism is probably no higher than London, as even if the US is more likely to be targeted, being a bigger country with separate political and financial centres kind of spreads the potential targets out more making it less likely that one particular city will be.

Not NY but I’m going to Boston in a couple weeks. I have no qualms whatsoever. My siblings live there I’m going to visit them. We plan on doing what we always do - eat out a lot, visit a few other towns, eat out, do some shopping, did I mention eating out?
Frankly it’s funny - Americans think we are either being stabbed on every street corner, have non stop rain (well… might have a point there) and that Terrorism is more common, which it is (which is one big reason 9/11 was so shocking to Americans as they just hadn’t experienced anything like it before). They aren’t more worried about terrorism now - for them the issues are thousands of miles away. The most recent thing on their (Northeastern) minds was digging out from two blizzards that dumped two feet of snow both times!
Go and enjoy.
