Agia Pelagia in Crete

Can anyone tell me if this is a nice place for a chilled beach holiday please? I'm just looking for a sandy beach and a few nice places to eat but want to be able to visit Knossos. Sandy beach is a must

I've been there twice but many years ago. The beach is shingle there, lots of nice restaurants though by the water's edge. If you hire a car there are sandy beaches nearby

ah thank you. I am so glad I checked because all the websites say it's a sandy beach but a few reviews mention shingle!

The sandy part gets really crowded, the shingle part less so. If you drive you will find lots of quieter sandy beaches. It wouldn't stop me from going, it's still a lovely place the restaurants are gorgeous many lapping the water's edge. Cretans were very friendly.
