Is this a good deal? Never booked a package holiday

Is this a good deal for Lanzarote half term?

Looking at booking Hotel Mirador Papagayo in Playa Blanca for the start of November half term (our school seems to have two weeks this year).

Price is £519pp which includes:
Flights
Bags
Transfers
Half board (you can swap Dinner for Lunch - vice versa)

There are 4 adults and 2 children, and we’d be getting two family rooms (free family room upgrade apparently).

Total for the 6 of us is coming out around £3,106 for the week.

Just wondering if this sounds like a good price for Playa Blanca in half term, or whether people think it’s worth holding out / looking elsewhere? Never booked a package holiday before!

Also if anyone has stayed at Hotel Mirador Papagayo with kids I’d love to hear what you thought!

Thanks

sounds like a bargain to me! Flights to Lanzarote cost half that per person last year and that wasn't in school holidays.

Sounds very very cheap! Have you looked at reviews? I always look at hotel reviews on Tripadvisor and on google. If it’s awful it will be fairly apparent on there…

Most schools are back to school by Nov (even those with 2 weeks) so that may be helping with prices

sounds like a bargain to me! Flights to Lanzarote cost half that per person last year and that wasn't in school holidays.

Jet2 were selling flights to Lanzarote last November for £90 including enough hand luggage to not need to pay for any more, 2 weeks ahead. Sadly I'd booked in August and paid more than twice that, but what can you do?

OP, have you looked at booking separately to see if it's any cheaper? I booked separately and even with my overpriced flight it was cheaper to do it that way.

There's a bus from the airport to PB that costs about 3 euro pp each way, and you don't need to wait while it goes round several hotels so worth doing if it goes relatively near your hotel.

The reviews for that hotel look fine, not awful, but it's a bit out of the way of the main resort centre. However, there is a bus that goes backwards and forwards from end to end and if you like walking, you're at the right end to walk to the Papagayo beaches.

When I went last year, I went half board because I was on my own and didn't want to go traipsing round restaurants for dinner. Also it was only a fiver a day more than B&B. But despite staying in a hotel with good reviews, the food was a bit boring/samey, so I generally just had a bit of salad in the evening and had a main meal out at lunchtime, which I prefer anyway.

I've stayed at that hotel though not with children. There's an annex where the family rooms are and the main hotel is seafront. We had a suite with a terrace just a few metres from the sea, fabulous room. The rest of the hotel was nice, lovely pool. Food was disappointing so I wouldn't return for that reason.
Also it's on the outskirts of PB. A good 25 minute walk to the marina and then more into town. There's a scrappy beach opposite though none of the PB beaches are brilliant IMO. The papagayo beach is beautiful but difficult to access and no amenities there, so unspoiled but not necessarily a family beach.

That price isn't bad for school holidays. Booking separately can be cheaper depending where you fly from, it's rarely cheaper for me.
There are better hotels and better locations in Playa Blanca but they might not be cheaper. Just to add the best food I've had in PB was the Iberostar
I was due to stay at the Volcano next week but have just had to cancel due to illness 😭

It sounds a bargain for school holidays.

Are the flights at some unearthly hour e.g. you have to leave home at 04.00, or arrive very late in the evening on your first day; and leave very early on your last day? And of course is the departure airport the most convenient for you.

These things make a difference especially as you're only going for one week.

it sounds too cheap! I’m looking at October half term and for 3 it’s about £2500 for half board.

Have a look at the reviews of the hotel. It maybe a bit cheaper as you are off peak (I’m the week before the main half term)

Bjorkdidit · 08/03/2026 05:38

It's less expensive because it's in term time for most. The hotel looks fine, not luxury, but not awful either.

My trip last year cost about £900 HB just for me but that was disproportionately expensive per person because of single occupancy and it was a more central hotel. It could have cost less but there was a particular hotel I'd always wanted to stay in.

Flights aren't necessarily at an unpleasant time either, I flew out at 9.30 am and was swimming in the sea before 5 pm on the first day. My flight back was at 3 pm which allowed for a leisurely start to the last day, morning walk, shower, pack up and breakfast and I was also able to visit the museum at the airport which is something I've wanted to do for ages.
