Mexico - resort suggestions

Hoping for ideas.

i am thinking about a summer holiday. It will just be me and my youngest (mid teens) as i think the oldest will want to go with friends. I like exploring, moving around, excursions (but not particularly museums) happy with beach / pool for a handful of days but not more.

my youngest has adhd and probably autism - hates changing hotel every night or two, gets bored very easily, finds it hard to cope with odd smells, overwhelming environments etc. if she feels uncertain wants to eat ‘safe’ food (fast food from a brand she knows) even though in reality she will eat pretty much anything. So many of the trips I would love to do I know she couldn’t cope with. So I’m wondering if an AI in Mexico would fit the bill - I could do a selection of day trips and she could bow out of the ones that she felt were too boring. We could also do stuff such as water parks.

However I would have no idea which part of Mexico would most fit the bill.

She would love to go back to the US - we did East Coast but as I follow a few anti trump bits on social media I am not sure I would pass the scrutiny 🤣

Any suggestions.

Mexico would not be a country I would visit this year with the cartel violence at its current level.

I think Yucatan, so Cancun, is where all the AI resorts are that most easily accessible from the UK. I would monitor the situation for a bit before deciding whether to book, it may settle down now El Mencho's funeral has happened. Our summer is obviously hurricane season in the Carribbean, so the weather may be anywhere from glorious, to some a bit iffy days, to long periods of tropical storm or worse. In my only prior Carribbean experience, I had a week of bad weather in late November (real tail end of the hurricane season), due to hurricane in the region but not directly where we were, this was Cuba not Mexico and many years ago.

No idea of the current safety of Mexico so won’t comment on that.

however I can recommend Xcaret Occidental near Playa del Carmen as a great AI resort. The grounds are amazing, you can ask for a high up room and the monkeys come on your balcony. Views were amazing. I rented a car and drove me and Dd about (excursions are expensive). We went to different cenotes and places like Tulum and Coba.

One great benefit is being next door to Xcaret park, you walk to it and like 2 mins. Fantastic day out. There are other parks in the same chain a bit further away with a different focus but we didn’t go to those.

if your budget is higher than mine then the Xcaret hotel (not Occidental) is meant to be great and I think gets you free access into the park.

These were some photos from the resort grounds. Lots of pools, a little beach, different restaurants.
