Mad Cool Festival - Madrid, any tips for a European festival

We're going to this festival in July. Never been to a festival before in a hot European country.

Apart from hat, suncream and loads of water does anyone have any top tips. We're saying in a hotel nearby and on a direct train route to the festival.

It’s absolutely fantastic. Make sure you check the set times closer to the time to plan your days as things start way later because it’s so hot. You will be up late - headliners normally don’t start until after midnight as opposed to 9pm at UK festivals. Bring an eye mask to try and sleep in!

Wow, didn't realise this about timings. Makes sense, thanks.
What are food and drink prices like in the festival ?

Make sure you have a plan for transport after the train finishes too - I’ve ended up walking 4+ miles because no taxis available. Wear a top which covers some skin too because sunscreen is only so effective, also consider temperatures late at night.

Party all night, sleep / relax by the pool all day. Spanish festivals are amazing! I’ve been to Benicassim quite a few times plus one in Barca I don’t remember the name of. I don’t think food / drink was too bad but it’s a good 15yrs since my last one. I second the advice about getting home. We learned the hard way so made sure we stayed in hotels that were walking distance away.

You’ll have a ball!

Just been doing more research and Pulp don't come on until 12.40 am. Crazy!! Sooo excited! Just didn't book a hotel with a pool which we're regretting now.

About six to seven euros for a beer in the festival. Which area are you staying? Some central Madrid hotels used to do pool day passes when I lived there so might be worth a Google!

We're staying near Atocha station. There's a park nearby apparently we could spend the day at (no splash park though) but yes any recommendations for a pool day pass would be appreciated thanks.
