Diana playground is closed for a refurb. There are playgrounds in Hyde Park and Regent's Park but they aren't destination playgrounds in the same way.

I know you’re looking for cheap days out, but if you’re going to the Science Museum with kids, get tickets for the Wonder Lab (£14 each). It’s really worth it. Watch the changing of the guard and see the pelicans in St James Park. If your kids are into transport go to the London Transport Museum and wonder around Covent Garden (Cafe Murano has a great value lunch menu and children’s menu). I’d personally not go to Madame Tussaud’s and would probably go to London Zoo instead of the Sealife Centre, but it depends on what you like and what the weather is like. There can be cheap child- friendly things on at the Southbank Centre, and the south bank is nice to walk along. If you’re into musicals there are draws you can enter to get £25 tickets for Matilda and Paddington. You could also go to the Tower of London, but tickets are expensive. If your kids are young and won’t enjoy looking at armour or queueing to see the Crown Jewels, look at it from the outside then look at the boats in St Katherine’s Dock and/or get free tickets to the Sky Garden instead.

As another poster has said, it’s totally worth paying for the wonderlab upgrade at the science museum! We spend 6 hours in there before needing to leave for our train 3 years ago. I’m allocating a whole day to it this time.
