Does anyone know Heathrow well? Airport hotel

storageconcern · 19/02/2026 06:33

I am flying into Heathrow on a Friday. Will land about 9 pm. I am looking for an airport hotel for the night before coming into the city for the night on the Saturday. Yes, I could do 2 nights in the city but hotels are super expensive and I am hoping to save some cash by staying out at the airport or close by the night before. I’ll arrive into terminal 5. I can see several hotels under £100 but placing them and getting to them is where I need some help.

You'd probably have to give us a clue as to which ones,

The Thistle can be reached by monorail (the pods), the hotels attached to T4 can be accessed by tube from T5..most of the rest you'll need a Hoppa bus or a TfL red bus.

I stayed at Ibis budget hotel at Heathrow last year. It is basic, but it was fine for one night. It's a very short drive from the airport, so you could get a taxi.

Premier inn came up as did the thistle, leonardo, holiday inn expresss. I suppose I am looking for something that’s easy to get to and not hugely expensive for 12 hours. I can see the Sofitel too but that’s over £200 so I’d be better coming into the city and having 2 nights at that price.

I will take a look at the thistle via the pods.

I don’t think I’m much help as I stay at the Sofitel. It’s at T5 and is excellent. I’m next staying there in March prior to long haul the next day. I book thirugh the Accor app as it gives a discount and points.

Anndalouzier · 19/02/2026 06:50

just look at them on a map and get a taxi

ALittleBitofWensleydale · 19/02/2026 06:55

I stayed at the premier inn near T5. 2 stops on an airport bus route. Really easy.

PurBal · 19/02/2026 07:13

The only hotel connected to T5 is the Sofitel. We book it because we have kids and I’m not travelling 15 minutes on a transfer bus/pod.

If the Holiday Inn Express is the T5 one that's actually in Colnbrook/Poole it's a bit remote compared with your other options.

I'd second the T5 Prem Inn, easy to get to/from T5 ....

Might be a bit late with this thought but if you're planning on a trip into town have you looked at any of the Hotels around Hatton Cross tube station? Those might be easier for tube access than anything on the Bath Road..

Similarly but not quite as good there's the likes of the T4 Prem Inn.. accessable from T5 by tube (or bus) and also handy for the tube to get London.

notimagain · 19/02/2026 07:28

Duplicate.. sorry

JollyHostess101 · 19/02/2026 07:29

Ex Heathrow worker of 18 years here- leonardo you’ll have to get a bus one the terminal or Hatton Cross to get the tube as it’s quite far down the Bath Road and not really near much!

Thistle, Premier Inn t5 all walkable back into the terminal or a quick bus ride! There’s a jury’s inn by Hatton Cross which is a tube station too which is meant to be good but I haven’t stayed there myself!

notimagain · 19/02/2026 07:43

TBF though it's a fair walk from the Thistle/T5 Prem Inn back to the Terminal and I think technically pedestrians aren't allowed on the relevant portion of the perimeter road that provides the shortest route (there certainly used to be signs that effect that may or may not have been ignored...🤐)

Jurys Inn changed it's name and I think is now a Hilton Garden Inn...I stayed there many years back, it was fine, and if I was planning a day/evening trip into town from the airport it would be one worth considering due tube access.

I think there's also a newer hotel in that neck of the woods now ? Atrium???

Thank you. Will have a look at Hatton Cross.

No 442 bus into Staines (10/15 minutes), then stay at the Premier Inn. It's then a 5 minute walk to the railway station (25 minutes to Waterloo).

MargoChanellingBarbara · 20/02/2026 07:12

Which terminal do you land at?

From the OP:
I’ll arrive into terminal 5.

Bluegreenbird · 20/02/2026 07:24

Seconding Staines if the prices are much cheaper. It’s very straightforward and well connected and loads of places to eat. There’s a Travelodge too a few minutes from the PI.

flippy35 · 20/02/2026 07:29

My favourite is the T4 premier inn. Excellent value. You can book a runway view room if you enjoy watching planes. Get the 482 or 490 TFL bus to/from T5 for £1.75 and pay by contactless. Takes 15 minutes. Brilliant!

notimagain · 20/02/2026 09:16

@flippy35

Yep that's one of the better ones and used to be a bit of a home from home in my working days...

If the bus isn't your thing you used to be able to transfer free T5>T4 via Central area using the train (Heathrow Express) and I think maybe it's a now also freebie on the tube.

The Staines idea is a good one, never tried that but makes sense.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 20/02/2026 12:29

We use Holiday Inn; nice hotel, reasonable food & a short shuttle bus trip to the terminals.
Not relevant to OP, but car parking is cheap there for outward bound travellers.

MrsPenelopeBridgerton · 20/02/2026 12:38

The Thistle is great. Very basic but we paid £65 last month for 1 night. We got on the pods at T5 which are self driving. You then pay at the other end (£8 a person I think) and it takes you back the next day. The food in the restaurant was very reasonably priced as well. We’ve booked in again for our trip in November.

flippy35 · 20/02/2026 14:22

@notimagain I find it such a faff especially with luggage to get to the T4 tube stop from PI T4, it’s quite a trek but as you say it’s free. The bus stops right outside the PI 😍

I know what you mean but OTOH unless it's all changed since my last visit if arriving at the T4 PI from T5 direction by Tfl bus after hopping off you've got the fun of crossing the main road to get to the hotel itself..ok with light bags but can get a bit sporty at rush hours with luggage..

I'd agree going the other way (T4 PI to T5) by bus the stop is a doddle.

Each to their own I guess .....
