We are heading to Doha very last minute for a holiday with 2 children 6&9.

Has anyone been? What fun things would you recommend we do?

i looked up some waterparks and google says they are all closed?

Ramadan starts this weekend and lasts for a month. Which involves fasting from sunrise to sunset so many places (restaurants etc) will close.

Won’t be much open for the next month

I noticed that it is Ramadan. But does that still mean the waterparks are closed?

Probably during the daytime but open after sunset.

Jrisix · 17/02/2026 10:39

Most places will be closed during the day for Ramadan but might open at night. Some hotel cafes will be open but with curtains drawn and screens up so nobody can see inside. There will be nighttime meals (iftar and suhoor). Museums should be open but probably on different hours.

I lived there ten years ago and it was illegal to eat or drink in public during the day, but presumably that doesn't apply to kids.

Did you know before you booked? Maybe you could try and change destination if it's not too late.

BusterGonad · 17/02/2026 11:35

I'm sorry to say but Doha is boring at the best of times.

TeamGeriatric · 17/02/2026 11:38

I had a quick scan after I saw your post, the meryal waterpark seems to be shut for maintenance, but other things seems do look to be open. Definitely do some research before making a final decision on whether to travel.

holycrapballs · 17/02/2026 11:55

It seems like a really weird destination for a random, late planned holiday. Are you visiting family or something?

TallulahBetty · 17/02/2026 11:56

Why are people continuing to go there? They hate blacks, whites, gays, women, any religion that isn't Muslim.

Aposterhasnoname · 17/02/2026 12:33

Not sure Doha would be my first choice for a holiday at any time, much less during Ramadan. Honestly OP, Id change it if I were you.

I wonder if OP spotted some cheap last-minute flights given it's Ramadan and nobody is going there

ThatOrThis · 17/02/2026 13:18

We went last year OP.

There's some nice safari day trips into the desert you can do, and the souks are good to wander in the evening / find places for dinner. It's very very small and quiet though compared to somewhere like Dubai. They're trying to up their tourist-offerings but they're nowhere near there yet.
plus as others have said, Ramadan starts this week so though the evenings will be busy, the days will probably be very very quiet.

I'd suggest pool and beach days personally though bear in mind depending on which beach you go to, you'll need to be covered up (women)

Isthisfake · 18/02/2026 07:52

Thanks all. Having a lovely time just at the hotel beach for now.

It is Ramadan, but that doesn’t affect us (young kids and we don’t drink alcohol and early nights suit us as we are pretty exhausted)

I booked a late notice trip there the November before last and had a really good holiday. I went to a fort, visited fishing villages, on a boat trip, to various museums, (one was designed by the person that designed the Louvre), to a shopping mall that had a canal and gondolas, had a Friday brunch, I went to a mosque and souk too.
I also enjoyed the hotel pool, spa and beach.
I think my favourite holidays are five star hotels where it’s easy to get out and about every day and also have a few hours chilling.
Clothes wise I wore my wide leg cropped trousers with shortish/three quarter sleeve tops and my midi/maxi dresses.

IDasIX · 18/02/2026 13:33

There’s a professional men’s tennis tournament on right now, You can probably still get tickets if your kids enjoy sport.

This. I had a long layover and spent a day there fairly recently. That felt like enough.

The weather is nice this time of year though, so just make sure you book a great hotel with a nice pool etc. - you can make it a fly & flop holiday.
