Crete in May

I'm looking for somewhere to go at the end of May.

Thinking of Crete - haven't been there before.

Anything I need to know? And any recommendations for an active 14-year-old, with scenery and history?

I went to Crete last May. It was quite adventurius. There was a 6.1 earthquake, first time i'd experienced that. No damage and everyone local carried on as normal. Then we had 2 days of sand storm and the pools went red!

Lovely the rest of time. I did feel sorry for the pool guys having to spend days hoovering the sand from bottom of the pools.

Went at the end of October and really liked it, our hotel had a tourist red bus stop pretty much outside which we used to go to Knossos Palace and Heraklion, was good value. Otherwise hotel had water slides and a decent pool which kept us busy!
Would definitely go back for a short break in the future

Agios Nikolaos is a really nice little town to visit.

Hire and car and explore.

We’ve been to Crete in May half term, it was lovely. Glorious weather, sunny and warm but not too hot. The pool was freezing though and the sea was warmer but still chilly, so look for a heated pool if you plan to swim unless you’re hardy.

Knossos is the classic sight - the Minotaur palace of legend. There are also hiking trails and gorges further south, you’d need a car though. Chania and Rethymno are nice old towns.

We went late May for our honeymoon we are regular visitors to Crete , the weather when we were there was exceptionally hot, a little cooler on an evening . I'd go back every year if I could
