Dubai. Anyone been?

We were hoping to do New York in December but the flight prices are just silly so now thinking about Dubai for may be 7 or so nights.

If you have been do you just stay at one hotel or would we be better staying at one in the city for say 3 nights and then another at the beach for say 5 nights?

Any input welcome. DS will be about 5 months at the time.

the city and the beach (such as it is ) are not that far apart (20 minutes by car). fwiw if you are with the baby beach ones might be better as bigger , more family friendly ..or depending on how much you wanted to splash out could go for one of of town Desert resorts (expensive but different).

I thought Dubai was ok but its not somewhere I'd hurry back to. Also be aware that hotel restaurants get booked up by locals so is worth booking ahead if you do want to eat in house (may very well be case if you're taking your lo).

You need MABS - she goes there all the time and loves it. Try the "Brighton local" forum or see if there's a thread about Brighton meet ups that she's on - don't think she trawls the general boards much.

We went last year, stayed in the Mina a salaam next door to the Burj. It was excellent, we loved every minute of it. We went in August so it was very hot but would go back at the drop of a hat.

Lovely. Thank you. NYC is still our main place but if fares don't work out it may well be Dubai for some sun!

Great place for kids - DDs were 5 and 2 when we went last Dec.

We were lazy and just stayed at one resort for whole stay. It was Royal Meridian and was most child friendly hotel I have ever stayed in if that's any help.

New York has been a must do as I really want to do the Christmas Lights and see all the sights of the city so that would be quite a full on break but people have said easier when DS is as young. We'd book a fairly reasonable hotel and take our time so if we wanted a quieter day we possibly could afford to do it.

Dubai again is somewhere we've both wanted to see but is likely to be more relaxing as we can have days by the pool when we want as well as doing a bit of sightseeing.

However, we have family in OZ and go over every other year. We'd probably be able to get a fairly cheap stopover next Christimas in Dubai when we go out so that sways me back to NY but would we then get the relaxing bit!

Decisions, decisions!

We're not really people for the touristy resorts in Tenerife etc so feel that if we go purley for the weather then it needs to be Dubai as the Caribbean is just that bit too far.
