Help me plan my dream 50th birthday holiday

Looking for the combined brain power and expertise of mumsnetters to give me some recommendations for where to go for our joint 50th birthday later this year

Spec
Probably Europe but am flexible
10 days or 2 weeks in September flying from Glasgow or Edinburgh - at a push Manchester
Myself, my partner and possibly two late teens (18 and 19)
Budget - max of around £10-12k for flights and accommodation for the 4 of us.
Accomodation - laidback chilled luxury (not flashy or tacky - def no partying or beach clubs) right on the sea. Within walking distance of lovely cafes, restaurants, shops etc but could hire a car. Would want 2 bedrooms if taking kids. Probably self catering or bed & breakfast. Not fussed about all inclusive as we don’t really drink.
Activities close - water sports (dream would be to be on beach with good snorkelling or scuba), site seeing.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

This area has a beautiful coastline with beaches of Caribbean quality. We had a villa and hired a car but it was a while ago so can't remember the name.

Minos Beach Art hotel is stunning, does B&B and has its own PADI dive centre.

Gozo or Corsica would be my suggestions. September is a great time to go.

I've just booked the Minos Beach Art Hotel on the back of @Forgottenmyphone 's recommendation on a similar thread!

We were talking about it last night and have realised that we went past it a few years ago and went "ooh that looks lovely" never thinking that one day we would just be able to book it.

Have a lovely time whatever you choose OP.

Have a look at Nixe Palace in Cala Major, Majorca. Right on the beach (which is rare), lots of shops and cafes nearby, and it's a short bus or taxi ride into Palma.

I was also going to suggest the Aethos in Paguera but until 20 September their rates will probably break your budget.

I’d look at Sicily, Taormina general area there’s resorts though I like the town myself. No idea on water sports but it’s perfect for restaurants, bars and people watching, not many British people, not a drinking type place. Book b&b. We hired a fiat 500 for a real Italian feel!

Croatia would be lovely in September. Have a look at Hotel Supetar in Cavtat. It's a short boat ride or bus to Dubrovnik. The hotel is right on the water. The beach is pebbles as is lots of Croatia but there is a place to rent little day boats to sandy islands for snorkelling. The hotel is superb - very boutique and small. Beautiful breakfasts, pool and little treats during the day like iced fruits or local cakes and sweet wine.

I’m going to Lassi near Argostoli in Kefalonia for my pre 50th.. staying in a small villa; the beaches & town with restaurants & bars are in short walking distance.

Great suggestion- thank you. Looks divine. I was looking at booking a trip to Corsica just last night so this is perfect. I'm about to book a solo trip I think.

Thanks for all these amazing suggestions. I’m going to spend the next few hours checking these out. So excited to plan.

Cavtat is stunning isn't it ... did a day trip from Dubrovnik. I must look into this hotel.

Agree, we’ve tried a couple of hotels in this chain (Adriatic luxury) and they’ve all been special
