Villa Holiday - Two Cars or One?

We are renting a villa on a tiny Greek island. The villa is about 3-4km from the town and about 6km to the best beach.

It’s 5 adults. Dh and I and then our two daughters (31 and 29) and eldest dd’s boyfriend (30).

A car can fit 5 people. But younger dd thinks we should rent two cars so people have more flexibility about where to go when.

DH thinks it’s a waste of money, and that the island is too congested with cars anyway, that it’s hard to find parking.

If DD wants a car to be flexible then let them
pay. They are old enough to rent. Or assuming your DH/you is taxi driver just say we are going here today, who’s coming? Also what are you going to do about dinners out. Who’s driving then? Am sure these conversations will focus the mind.
Also find out about taxis? The odd taxi might be cheaper. But if it’s like the tiny Greek island I went to last summer there are about 3 taxis on the Island.

Having been on a holiday like this with my family, I would recommend two cars as sometimes people want to go off and do their own thing - saves everyone feeling on top of one another.

I have never been so cross as when when my parents insisted on one car for a similar holiday, saying a second car would be a waste of money. They refused to add me as a driver and then essentially held me to ransom all holiday by only going exactly where they wanted to go. (I was going to pay for ‘my’ car and had contributed fully towards the holiday)

I have never been on holiday with them again despite them asking. I never want to feel that trapped again but really it was the utter disregard of my wishes that stung.

Two cars, it's a nightmare to coordinate and 5 drivers is also quite expensive. I would think you have quite some resentment otherwise if plans clash and taking cabs is also not cheap.
