Solo city breaks?

Any recommendations?

I don't want anywhere to expensive or the beaten track destinations such as paris.Because i've been there a few times.

Just some place with enough things to do for a few days on my own
I was thinking Budapest so I could go.to the spas. Mid to end of March

Also thinking of Athens

I liked Tallin.
Also liked Ghent and Bruges which I did solo.

Pinkissmart · 05/02/2026 21:48

Watching with interest. I want to do this too

Stockholm - beautiful, clean, packed with museums

Been there but good suggestion.Although for march I'd like something a little bit warmer.

I enjoyed Milan, Trieste, Hamburg, Bilbao, San Sebastián and Copenhagen. I’d love to go to Lugano, Berne, Frankfurt next.

Mercurial123 · 05/02/2026 22:53

Florence or Rome.

MinnieMountain · 06/02/2026 05:02

If you want spas, how about Baden-Baden?
Avignon.
Cologne.
Nimes.

reluctantbrit · 06/02/2026 07:47

I went alone to Florence and had a great time.

twilightcafe · 06/02/2026 07:49

I love Berlin. It's not all pretty but it's a fascinating city that's easy to get around and you don't need to speak German.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/02/2026 07:50

Amsterdam, Aarhus, Boston, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Oslo, Reykjavik, Seville

Athens is lovely.

i did it with my kids but it would be fine alone.
lots of restaurants, so much to see.

highly recommend the day trip to Delphi.
i also swam in lake vouliagmenti which is fed by hot springs and stays at 25 ish all year round.

Budapest is great and very safe, found it very friendly.
Vilnius
Berlin

CurrentHun · 07/02/2026 18:07

Public transport was great in Berlin that helped but maybe for March go warmer; Palma Mallorca or Venice. Milan.

hopefullyme · 07/02/2026 18:13

I’ve been on a break to Madrid which is great for art.

ascenda · 07/02/2026 18:16

I enjoy going to a city where I can do a day trip to somewhere else. These worked for me, just suggestions - all were very enjoyable and very safe for me on my own too.

Seville - day trip to Cordoba
Malaga - day trip to Alhambra in Granada
Padua - day trip to Venice
Florence - day trip to Lucca.

I had a lovely solo trip flying into Bratislava and taking a train from there to Salzburg. Did the sound of music singalong tour and fly back from Salzburg! Amazing

AzureRose · 07/02/2026 23:47

Great ideas especially doing a day trip while there.

Toulouse is lovely for a couple of days and good for a day trip to Carcassonne too.

Planner2026 · 08/02/2026 21:46

Seville - small, beautiful, can walk everywhere, I felt really safe there

LorettaYoung · 08/02/2026 21:50

Second Madrid as i used to live there and it's very safe compared to pick pockety Barcelona. And Florence!

Another vote for Salzburg

ArwenUndomniel · 09/02/2026 14:52

You can do day trips between Vienna and Bratislava, and between Monaco and Nice (although the latter two are not what you'd call inexpensive). Also, how about Bruges with a trip to Ghent or Brussels?

ZenZazie · 09/02/2026 15:08

Girona

Mumoflovelyboys2 · 09/02/2026 15:12

Tallin used to be full of stag groups and didn't have a nice atmosphere at all when I went there. They might have cleaned it up though I'm not sure
