Does anyone know about Iryo trains in Spain?

I have a very specific question which the relevant websites aren't answering for me.

I'm going to be travelling on an Iryo train. The standard fare ("inicial") doesn't allow you to take a large suitcase on board, so I've got an "inicial superior" ticket which allows you to take a max of 3 bags, including a suitcase, subject to weight and size restrictions. There is a further 10 euro fee on top of the ticket price for this suitcase.

But when do I pay this extra fee? I wasn't able to do so when booking the ticket! Do I pay on boarding? On the train? Should I go to the station the day before and pay at the ticket office then?

I really don't want to miss my train, or incur a 40e surcharge, for getting this wrong!

Have you tried the Seat61 website? If he doesn't have the answer on there you can message him. The man knows everything about trains. He's my hero.

Ive Just read the whole website basically. And its really badly explained. It says you should have done it when you bought the ticket, and if not, to contact customer service to add it. Thry have a chat bot which will respond to English I think, if you dont have spanish.

Ah thank you. I tried the chatbot but it only repeated the possible luggage options, not how to pay for them; and I ticked the extra luggage option when I bought the ticket but it wouldn't accept it!!

I'll try to track down a human being in CS; preferably a keyboard-bound one- my written Spanish is good, my telephone Spanish less so!
