Hi folks , I’d really appreciate any recommendations for family of 4 (kids 9 and 5) for either of these destinations- we prefer b&b and kids love the beach . I like a bit of culture / interesting food where possible. Which would you choose ? Tia

I'm not sure Cyprus is guaranteed warm then

I would go to Cyprus if you want culture. It was low 20s last year in early April. Warm enough to be on the beach, the sea is probably too chilly to swim still. I would book a hotel with an indoor pool to be sure of being able to swim. The canaries would be warmer, but offer much less on the way of culture, but obviously still have things to do.

There is quite a lot to see in Lanzarote. All the Cesar Manrique stuff is excellent. You would need a car or book a trip, and Mount Timanfaya is unmissable.

We went to Cyrpus in April 2018. It was warmer than I thought it would be, like around 20-25 degrees, so we did manage to swim in the sea. The outdoor pool was still too cold for me though! The food was excellent and we had a great time overall. Highly recommend. We stayed in a 1 bed flat (2 adults, 2 kids 9 and 6) in the Avanti holiday village in Paphos. There were 2 sofa beds in the living room. Would not hesitate to return one day! We did hire a car and do day trips around the island as well.

This website will tell you what the temperatures were like in April last year.

We went to Cyprus in mid April once. The weather was fab. We wore short sleeves out at night. The sea was warm enough for a swim

I went to Cyprus last year and would not hurry back. Found it very Britz abroad.

I think it depends where you go. It's quite possible to avoid Brits abroad resorts in every Mediterranean country.

I would recommend Lanzarote, definitely enough to do to keep you busy for a week and reliable good weather.

Marchintospring · 01/02/2026 18:05

Not much in it I’d imagine.

I love Gran Canaria. Yes it’s a bit brits abroad but it’s got very interesting vibe - the south is desert and the interior is lush. The scenery makes it feel very different to Europe.
Lots to do and see from fantastic walks, beaches as well as “ attractions”.

Even more so if you stay in a rental apartment or villa and avoid obvious ex-pat bars.

Thanks folks - I think we’ll go for Canaries and get a villa as it’s more settled than Cyprus atm . Definitely on my list for the future tho

That seems a good decision.

Easyjet have just cancelled flights to Cyprus until at least Thursday due to the situation with drones attacking the RAF air base.

We're going to Cyprus in June so I'm hoping the situation will have settled down by then (not just because of our holiday of course).

We've been looking at the same issue for the last 4 Easter hols. Ended up in Lanzarote 3 times as a safer bet with weather and you can find activities/decent food with a bit of legwork.

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is popular as it gets the best weather and nice beaches. I think I put recommendations for places to eat on a similar thread somewhere...
