My sister went on honeymoon. I don’t think there was much there to see/do from her perspective. Presumably you’ve already researched it so have a plan and as you’ve said, it’s for sun and relaxation so should be plenty of that!

Can’t advise on what to bring/not bring. Hope you have a great time.

Zanzibar is off the coast East Africa, it’s part of Tanzania and my only tip would be to take plenty of mosquito repellant with you. Two weeks there would be a long time.

Brace yourself for the history of the slave trade in Zanzibar as well as the places you’ll visit to see the reality of it.

I went on a day trip from Dar Es Salem in Tanzania when I was cabin crew. It was very nice, lovely white beaches, but perhaps a little grubby. That was 12 years ago so it may have changed. The people were lovely. I’ve always loved that region of Africa. And the weather is fabulous.

Zanzibar is East Africa, not central!
Snorkelling Mnemba Atoll, Stone Town night markets, spice tours, Jozani Forest. Lots of sitting around drinking cocktails! Could nip over to Nyerere for a night on safari!

I went for a few nights as an add-on after a safari. 2 weeks is too long, imo, but I’m not really one for much sunbathing. The snorkelling was good.

It is mandatory for all travels to buy their travel insurance so you need this too

I went for a few nights after a safari - stunning hotels and beaches - 2 weeks probably too much unless you are a sun worshipper

I went last year and didn’t like it. We have travelled in Africa extensively but Zanzibar spoilt by over tourism. We did a boat trip and the boats were crowding the dolphins, it was horrible. Sone offer swimming with wild dolphins too which is unethical. We avoided turtles as reviews said it was similar. . Mainland Tanzania much better!

thank you all - very interesting ... really helps give me more perspective.... I am working a bit while out there so it won't be just beach lying... can see why you think 2 weeks might be too much otherwise!

I’ve been twice, to Pajé, on the south east coast. There’s loads of kite surfing there. I loved Stone Town & Freddie Mercury’s birthplace is now a museum. The fish and sea food is very tasty. The resort we stayed at (Kisiwa) has a spa.
