Mexico itinerary

Hi, wondering if anyone can help/advise on a Mexico trip - Easter holidays 2026, 2 adults, 2 kids (1 teen, 1 toddler). I've done a little bit of research and I'm quite fancying a couple of days of culture and then 10 days in a nice AI. I was thinking a couple of days in Merida and then a nice hotel in/around Tulum, but open to suggestions. I'd like the hotel to be really nice (nothing tacky or Brits abroad), great food and ideally a separate sleeping area for the kids. If anyone can advise on itinerary/transport (would we hire a car?), whether the places I've suggested would be good or any better alternatives etc that would be fantastic and give me a great start point. Thank you in advance

10 days AI seems a bit too much to me, and 2 days in Merida not long enough!

Yucatan has tons of beautiful ex haciendas that are now hotel-spas. Merida is also one of the safest cities, and one of the culinary capitals of Mexico.

You don’t need a car, you can either take a private transfer or go by coach/bus https://ado.reservatickets.com/?retailerPartnerNumber=851287

For separate rooms, you’ll definitely need a suite or and adjoining room. The Finest in Cancun is a decent option. If you want Michelin star dining you want the grand velas.

Long time since going to Mexico but Mexico City followed by a flight to Cancun and then a hire car to Tulum. We had a villa on the beach so can’t help with hotels. Loved both places. Lots of fab restaurants in Tulum.
