Rural peace with teenage fun abroad

We don't fly due to climate change reasons and I don't like driving abroad. We have had some of the holidays by train to Germany and the Alps, last year we went to Saint David's in Wales. The weather was amazing, there was lots to do with kayaking, beach swimming, walking, plus the small town had lots going on with live music, the women's football finals, so the teenagers didn't feel like they were stuck in the middle of nowhere with their parents.

I'd really like to find somewhere similar in Europe, Northern France would be ideal because we could get the ferry and it's not a long drive. Otherwise it would have to be a cheap train because we don't have a lot of money this year. I'd love to go back St David's but I just can't rely on the weather being good two years in a row.

I'm looking for somewhere with lots of outdoor stuff to do but a small town with things going on in the evening so the teenagers don't get bored. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

Brittany, France. You can get ferries to St Malo and be right there in the region. I recommend Vannes and the surrounding area.

Belgian coast? A tram runs the whole length of it. Huge sandy beaches. Seaworld, waterparks, Blankenberg, Ostende, De Haan. (There's a CP in De Haan) www.belgiancoast.co.uk
