Florida right now

We're flying out to Florida next week for the trip of a lifetime with our Disney obsessed 6 year old DD. We were all super excited until one of my mum friends at the school gate on Friday told me with the way things are in the world right now there's a chance we won't be safe.

We're staying on property and whilst I'm aware things are happening put there right now I thought we'd be ok.

Am I endangering my DD with this hol?! Think I've lost perspective now!

You'll be fine.

LadyLovealotte · 25/01/2026 18:22

Why would you not be safe? Are you worried about ICE agents? Terror attacks? You’ll be as safe at Disney as you’d be at home probably.

LadyLovealotte · 25/01/2026 18:22

Just go and have a great time- honestly don’t give it a second thought. Someone is probably just envious you’re going away.

LivelyLizard · 25/01/2026 18:22

We went 6 weeks ago and people said the same to us, things have changed slightly since then but we felt absolutely safe and had a wonderful time. Have a great time!

Tiswa · 25/01/2026 18:26

We were over Christmas and it is perfectly safe (where are you on property)

TeenLifeMum · 25/01/2026 18:28

Disney will be fine. Not sure I’d go to Minnesota right now (but hope to summer 2027 to visit family who live there).

Pepperedpickles · 25/01/2026 18:37

Disney is just about the safest place anyone could be in America right now - very high security, full of tourists spending money and wanting to have a nice time. I think you’ll be fine. I follow tons of travel bloggers on you tube who all frequently visit Disney in Florida and not one has made any mention of feeling unsafe or cutting back trips - and they have done this in the past for other reasons so it’s not like they’re not transparent. Go and have a good time.

I wouldn't go to the US right now for ethical reasons, but from a safety perspective, I think you will probably be fine. Trump isn't targeting Florida because he is focused on the blue states that didn't support him.

I do think the situation is a tinder box right now, and it could all blow up into serious civil unrest at any time, but I can't see that happening in Florida in the next couple of weeks.

Make sure you have good travel insurance though, just in case.

What she said.

You’ll be fine and have the best time.

Tiswa · 25/01/2026 20:29

Marco Rubio is a trumpite and Florida senator so yes in that sense perfectly safe

regista · 25/01/2026 20:57

I was in Florida (Orlando) in the Autumn, heard similar dire views but ploughed ahead. Orlando and Disney are a complete tourist bubble where you will have a lovely holiday. Safer than a lot of other holiday destinations I reckon. I appreciate that some might choose not to go to the US right now and this might be colouring the view of your mum's friend. It's not like you are visiting a likely spot for civil unrest. Particularly if you will be staying in the park you'll find it much as it ever was there.

TableTurners · 25/01/2026 21:28

Thank you so much everyone, I feel a bit better about it after your comments 😊

We will be going in July. We’ve been a number of times. It’s a bubble.

We booked before Trump was re elected. In all honesty, if we were booking now, we wouldn’t choose Florida. But booked we have and I’m not wasting all that money.

We had planned to do a couple of internal flights while we are out there but will now stay in the Disney/Universal bubble.

Agree with the above

We went last year and going again this year. The Disney bubble is real, disney is very democratic in views and so Trump supporters not really welcome. The only time we felt unsafe was in ubers when certain uber drivers were clear on their favourable views on Trump and one talked about all the guns he has at home (bit scary with kids in the car but he was a weird one) Avoid ubers just use disney transport and you will be fine

MamaMumMama · 25/01/2026 22:22

We often go to Florida and have felt absolutely fine. Most recently there over Christmas. The things you see on the news are real but are not happening everywhere. Go and enjoy yourself.

EyeLevelStick · 25/01/2026 22:59

I’m in Florida now. I am not sure when we’ll be back to the USA, given what’s been going on, but you’ll be safe.

On a separate note, it’s going to be chilly here for the next week or so, so pack for all possibilities!

See that is what I think has changed over Christmas we saw 3-4 MAGA tops/hats and the American Adventure cheers for Obama and complete silence for Trump

small little things yes but one of a slight sense of unease if you were looking for it

dottiehens · 25/01/2026 23:13

That is ridiculous! Because the people here hate Trump and are advising people to sabotage trips to the US. You will be fine.

CoffeeInTheClouds · 25/01/2026 23:44

Sounds like your Mum 'friend' is trying to ruin your holiday!

As with anywhere, be sensible. But honestly, Disney is about the safest place you could be, especially if you stay in thr bubble. Layers and layers of security, and police all over the place!

Have a wonderful holiday.
