Intrepid Trips

Has anyone been on one of their family trips and can recommend. I’m usually an independent booker and would never think of booking a package in Europe. I love travelling around a country with our backpacks exploring new places

I always imagined travelling further afield to Asia when funds allowed. However now they do, I’m feeling more nervous doing it as a solo female with a child. My daughters also getting to the point that she likes to spend time with other kids. I thought that one of the family group trips may be a good solution. Have you found the kids interact well on these trips or do families keep to themselves? Open to other recommendations if anyone has found some solution to this. We’ve tried a cruise which she loved the kids club on, however that was more for the Disney cruise experience and where I’d like to visit and the amount I’d like to see, doesn’t work with one day in a port

We did one with exodus to Costa Rica with other families, will be similar to intrepid. We loved it! Families had their own time as well as meals and activities with the others. You can ask the travel company who else is booked on and they will tell you ages and sexes of families. We’ve since done a group trip as adults (no kids, older now!) and i do think they are a great way to explore an area with an expert guide, no stress over driving or finding somewhere to eat etc.

That’s good to know, thank you. I’ve looked at the Exodus Costa Rica trip as well as one of their others, however I can’t make the dates work this year. Hopefully will get there in 2027.

We love time just the two of us, but it’s nice for her to be able to have some interaction with other kids. Thanks for the tip on asking the mix that is already booked on the trip.

I’ve also found Explore! this morning who’s Borneo trip has the perfect dates for us

Explore are also happy to give demographics for each trip

Yes I think they all are. I’m looking at a company called much better adventures and they say they even set up a WhatsApp group beforehand. Not sure about that!!

so many of these trips are really so good. And I think as a single parent you’d possibly also enjoy the company.

I’ve seen Much Better Adventures advertised a few times. Their trips look really good and probably something I will look to do once my daughter stops travelling with me

Yes we went to Namibia with them. They use local contractors (well they all do) and they were very goo. Nothing was too much trouble and the trip was excellent. I’d look and see if there’s free time in any of the places as you can then book something yourself (or see about any optional extras).
