Help me find this resort (Greek Islands)

I’ve had a shocking few years. So bad it’s hard to fathom. I want to do a Shirley Valentine and visit one of the Greek Islands for a week in May, solo. I need rest and recovery, hot sun and glistening sea views.

I want to be very close to a sheltered beach with white sand and shallow turquoise water. I need a direct flight and I don’t want it to feel overcrowded in May. I plan to go for early morning walks, read by the pool and sit on the beach. Evenings will be spent at the accommodation - watching movies and sleeping early. I’ll take a couple of day trips. I don’t want to use public transport or hire a car if possible - I’d like everything to be walkable (happy to walk far and a lot). I need good breakfast and lunch spots, coffee shops, and a small supermarket. I don’t want to feel isolated so not a village - it does need to be a small town at least.

Does any of this ring a bell? I feel at home in the Greek Islands, but the ones I’ve been to actually haven’t had great beaches. I’m looking for a feeling of paradise and pure escapism.

Can anyone help? Thank you!

That's where i stay, but it is quiet. Amazing beaches with a walks through the forest.
I found the atmosphere in skiathos town magical on an evening and it was nice wandering round.

Koukounaries is quiet not much to do in an evening enough restaurants if you didn't want to travel out, the busses are good, but I would want to get one every evening

Agree, it’s lovely.

Where you would you recommend for a 7 day holiday if I was to stay in one place? I’m sure I read that Fiskardo is best for a day trip only.

Ive stayed in skala, sami, lassi and lourdas.

Sami is a great location as its roughly central. Near the captain corelli beach. Can get a little busy when boat trips come in (ditto fiskardo)

Lassi was too busy. Didnt enjoy. Although beach very nice and sandy.

Skala gorgeous. But based on a fairly steep hill and beach can be tricky as stony.

Also going slightly into left field. Asos is a stunning tiny little fishing village with a beautiful venetian fort on the hillside opposite the bay. Unfortunately the road down to it is not for the faint hearted!

Roda is very high on my list now, thanks. I’d hoped for somewhere closer to a town, but if I do go for a small resort this looks pretty good!

Roda is just along the coast from Kassiopi, be sure to visit if you do go to Roda. It’s a beautiful little fishing village.

I agree Crete is amazing, I stayed in Rethymnon though which doesn't have the vibe you're looking for. I did the excursion to Spinalonga though, like a PP said is beautiful.

Corfu is just stunning, I've stayed in Agios Gordios which is a tiny resort on the SW coast. Not a lot going on but perfect for R&R and a big, beautiful beach.

I did Crete as a solo traveller and felt safe the entire time (Corfu went with a friend), I speak the language but everywhere you go, English is spoken.

Daratsos in Crete. Near Chania. Beautiful sandy beaches, plenty of lovely restaurants. We liked to take the bus into Chania and have evenings out there, but there are plenty places to check out.

Almyrida is wonderful too. I thought it would be too small for us as the restaurants were along the beach in a single line, but we've been there a few times and not got tired of it. We booked an apartment with a private pool that was a short walk from the beach, independent bakeries and shops. It's lovely. So glad to see others recommending it as well.

We've been to Roda many times while staying down the coast, only visited (we always have a hire car) but it has always been so enjoyable. The beach is quite long and there's plenty of space. We go in July/August when the sea has warmed up a bit, early in the season it would still be on the chilly side.

Kassiopi in Corfu is fabulous for us, we've been many times (including 2020 and 2021) and we never tire of it. It's got a wonderful community vibe, as it's been a small fishing village that has grown. It's not like a resort, it feels genuine.
I need good breakfast and lunch spots, coffee shops, and a small supermarket. I don’t want to feel isolated so not a village - it does need to be a small town at least
Kassiopi does fill the brief here, although it IS a village, it's absolutely providing all this, and so many different types of cuisine - Greek, Italian, Indian, Mediterranean. No McDonalds/KFC/Dominos, all the restaurants are independents and produce gorgeous food. We love it, the atmosphere is so warm and lovely. There are a few sandy beaches, plus lots of pebbly ones with crystal clear water which are great for snorkelling. You can book excursions and trips, hire a little motorboat and pootle down the coast to a taverna for lunch, go on a boat trip to Corfu Town for the evening. So many options and I want to go again now
