Best family friendly snorkelling destinations

Looking to compile a list of the above because we all love to snorkel/swim in the sea etc.

I’m interested in any recommendations really but particularly:
*destinations that are reasonable for a weeks holiday, so not super long haul from the UK
*destinations where we can base ourselves near the snorkelling destination rather than having to travel to it every day
*desrinations where entry to the snorkelling site is easy access, not having to clamber over cliffs or fight huge waves
*different or unusual suggestions.

Malta, specificaly Xlendi bay Gozo. Isand s only about 5 miles by 7, hire a car and if the wind is the wrong direton just go the other coast. Boat trip to Comino etc

Perhaps a bit far but we had fab from shore snorkelling from reasonably priced airbnb in 3 places in Mauritious.
I guess Egypt or the Caribbean would be your closest tropical reefs?

sundaysurfing · 11/01/2026 20:49

I did snorkelling with my son in Egypt and it was amazing! I would highly recommend.

We went to Sharm el Sheikh for NYE. 5 hr flight and snorkelling from the hotel jetty.

Celestialmoods · 11/01/2026 20:57

Sharm el Sheikh or another Red Sea Resort

We snorkelled with seals on a trip in the Scilly Isles! That was pretty amazing! Think it might be a minimum age of 12 though, so depends how old your kids are.

For excellent next-to-the-hotel snorkelling without flying super far, it's hard to beat Sharm el Sheikh.

We usually go to Sharm el sheikh for snorkelling and diving. It’s the best by far in terms of relatively short travel.
