Looking for some inspiration.

Family of 3, DC is 6 so ideally family friendly activities.

Can be UK based or abroad.

Thanks 😊

I think we'll camp in the Lake District. We're having a holiday abroad in the summer.

we sold our caravan last year, slightly regretting it now as it might have been a good option for the May half term!!!

Thanks

Alghero in Sardinia. We have a 12 yo. I really want some warmth and to swim, DH loves the food there and DS is happy to be lazy.

Sicily, sunshine, culture, beaches, beautiful towns, great food and a vulcano

We’re having a week in London. The kids have never been and are so excited.

Where are you staying @SchoolDilemma17 ? We're seriously considering Sicily having loved visiting Vesuvius.

We did Norfolk in May, can be mixed weather but plenty to do.

Friends swear of The Mole, a resort in Devon, but I have no idea about the prices.

Don’t know yet, we have booked flights to Palermo for now.
we stayed in Cefalu before, which is beautiful seaside town. From there you can do a boat trip to Stromboli and see it erupt in the night. A very special experience.

For Etna I’d recommend staying in Giardini Naxos (closest airport is Catania). From there you can do trips to Taormina, Etna, Siracusa and you are in a lovely beach town.

We’re off to Efteling, as I don’t think any other European country has a school holiday at that time so shouldn’t be too busy.

Octaviathethird · 09/01/2026 17:58

We're having a very short break at Chessington, just 3 days midweek, we find dd6 is always exhausted at the beginning of the school holidays so we build in a few days at the start for her to rest. We have proper holidays during the longer holidays at Christmas, Easter and the summer hols.

Fairieswearhats · 10/01/2026 15:32

We're going to Rotterdam for 5 nights, plenty to do for kids.

Answered above - booked flights to Palermo, no accommodation yet but will probably do the East Coast. In the past we have been to Cefalu (which we loved), a resort near Cefalu and to Giardini Naxos (Catania side) and explored Taormina, Etna, Siracusa.

we really like it, the beaches are lovely, old towns and great food. It’s not as commercial or overrun as some other places but some towns are (eg Taormina). Definitely some rougher areas too, so do your research.

Tent camping in shropshire

Kids will be 13 and 9. We will sightseeing, have campfires, do campfire cooking and just generally chill.

For the last 3 years, at May half term, we've been to Edinburgh and have generally had lovely weather. 2024 was a bit rainy but 2023/2025 were both beautiful. This year we are going to Paris which is what we did in 2022.

Scottish island.
Best time to visit.
