Hello,
We are going on holiday to Hurghada in April and are very excited! I have a couple of questions:

Can you snorkel if you’re not a strong swimmer? How deep do you have to go to see fish?

We are planning a day trip to the valley of the kings: the excursion I am looking at booking includes lunch “in a local restaurant “. I have a fussy eater son, has anyone been on one of these excursions and can share what kind of food was provided?

Any other tips to share gratefully received (but please only if you’ve been on holiday to this part of Egypt yourself).

Thank you!

If you’re snorkelling by a reef you’ll be able to see plenty of fish from the surface. Be careful not to touch the reef at all though!
I find the food on this excursions quite bland, there will probably be white rice, pasta in a slightly tomatoey sauce, salad, maybe something like kofta.
Your hotel will happily pack you a breakfast though, and there would probably be plenty on there for DS to cover lunch too.
Luxor is incredible, and you’ve definitely made the right choice choosing this over Cairo and the Pyramids.

Thank you so much! Really helpful. I’m thinking to take a bag of snacks from the hotel or local supermarket in case he struggles with lunch - hoping they’ll sell fruit/ bread/ biscuits/ crisps locally. But if it’s bland pasta and rice he’ll be happy!

We are going in August 2026, are you just booking this tour with the company you are travelling with or have a company to book with been recommended to you?

I love Egypt and the Egyptian people, have been so many times… but do take plenty of rehydration salts and Imodium!
And The Valley of the Kings will be scorching even at Easter! The valley just seems to magnify the heat. I really rate the cooling towels that you keep wet for regulating your temperature.
There will be people selling stuff on the way in and out, we didn’t find them pushy at all. A simple “La, shukran” “no, thank you.” Goes a long way.

@teatimefortigerwe are travelling with love holidays, the tour I was looking at is through Get Your Guide - I have used them in this country so had a look on there. There’s loads of others through Facebook but I find it hard on those groups because I feel like it is just people selling their own companies rather than real experiences of tourists.

Hi, been to Egypt many times on holiday - my top tip is disinfect your hands with hand sanitiser every time you touch money, it is absolutely filthy! And of course the basics such as wash your hands before eating anything, only drink bottled water, no ice in drinks, no salads etc. Never been ill doing this. Luxor is fantastic, you'll love it. We had lunch thrown in at a local place on our visit and as PP said it was white pasta with a tomato/bolognese type sauce but was surprisingly good. Weather is fantastic out there. Enjoy!

Get your guide was fab in Hurghada we went in 2023 amd had a fabulous holiday. It was far better value than Greece the following year.
we did a boat trip to orange island it was gorgeous. Little squiddy things or maybe cuttlefish shooting around the the shallows. I warn you though lots of excursion places are cash only I wasn’t prepared.
wd stayed at a pikalbatros resort and loved it so much we are going to their place in Morocco.
the seafront at Hurghada isn’t that pretty but the resorts are amazing.

i took my DDs snorkelling they were 11/14 at the time and they did really well. The staff were v protective of dd2 and supervised gee very well.
don’t buy snorkels out there though they are really expensive and not great. If you want your own get well fitting ones back here and pack them.

there is a small but quite nice mall in Hurghada it might be called Sensao but I might have made that up. Nice bubble tea in there.

there have much to buy in Hurghada that isn’t brand knock offs - you don’t need much spending money especially if you are AI.

hope this is helpful we would go again it’s great

randomly Hurghada is not a mainly British resort - must other families will be German.
