Stubai Glacier ski school advice

Newbuildtooldbuild · 05/01/2026 08:06

I am a newbie to skiing and have booked a hotel that is a 20-40 min bus to the ski school (by mistake 🤦‍♀️)

Has anyone stayed near Stubai Glacier?

I’ve been told the ski school is very good for beginners

>I can’t work out, on Google maps, where the ski school meet? <

As it’s just me and my two non skiing children, I would like to make things as easy as possible and book a hotel near the ski school meeting point (without buses). I have found the booking office, but apparently this is 20 mins away from the glacier.

If anyone could please send me a location pin it would really help me find a hotel (and any other tips for a newbie on her own with two little boys). Thank you.

The ski school is at the top of the cable car.
The nearest hotel is the alpensporthotel Mutterberg at the bottom of the cable car.

Its a fantastic place to ski, but not the easiest place to access. Especially if you are on your own with two children. You can hire lockers up the mountain to keep fear in overnight

Oh gosh really. Please could you expand a little on this?

I thought it looked like an easy place for beginners.

My hotel is able to be cancelled.

Are there any other places you would recommend? (Ideal if Austria as the flights are easy for us there) but not essential.

Thank you. Do you know where the cable car is please?

Im trying to change my hotel to one as close to/as little faffing as possible. (I’m a single parent taking my two boys age 7&9 alone for the first time so need something easy as possible)

Its just the whole getting them onto the cable car bit, as opposed to ski areas where the hotels are near the slopes. Once you are up the mountain, its fantastic.

The cable cars (you will need the Gamsgarten one, all the way to the top) start what is basically a massive car park. The only hotel there is this one

Everything else needs the bus or a car.

Thank you. I really appreciate your time in replying. I will have to do some more research

I'm sorry to have put you off because its a fantastic place. Just faffy.

I'm pretty sure DH would move there November-Easter given half the chance!

Suggest you ask to move this thread to the dedicated skiing section where you will get some better advice. A number of people there have good knowledge of Austria and will be able to advise you better. You don’t need a glacier in February with the associated lift pass cost which you won’t get use of as beginners - there are other much more suitable beginner resorts (although choice may be very limited if you’re looking at this Feb).

stringbean · 06/01/2026 10:48

The main limiting factor for this Feb is likely to be ski school - suggest you check out availability for this first before booking anything else.
