Seychelles self catering - tips?

We are heading to the Seychelles in April, never been and looking forward to it!

Our current plan is to stay on the main island, Mahe, near Beau Vallon (but not in the town itself). We have found some self catering apartments with pool that look lovely.

I’m only used to hotels in these kind of tropical resort destinations (Maldives/Thailand/Sri Lanka), and feeling a bit apprehensive about self catering. Are there supermarkets? Will we need a car? Or should we assume we will eat out at night? Is the surrounding area safe?

For context our accommodation is about 5 minute drive (30 min walk) from Beau Vallon town.

Many thanks in advance for any information.

Hi. I went to this area in August. There are a few small food shops and take away places near to where you will be. Food shopping was no problem but we had a car and I think you may struggle to carry shopping back to your accommodation on a regular. I would rent a car from the airport and explore the island.

Sounds amazing!

What sort of cost do you think your trip will be pp?

Is it much cheaper than a package?
