Please could I beg some recommendations for a Greek holiday at may half term?
I love the islands and DD is keen to visit Greece but I've never been with the kids.

I would avoid the Ionian’s in May if you want a beach holiday. While you can get lucky, it is often wet in May and/or cooler in the evenings. In May I would be looking at the more southerly islands; Rhodes, Crete, that sort of area

Thank you

Although that's disappointing as kefalonia was my first choice 😂

Hersonissos in Crete would be ideal for you. We went there at May half term about 10 years ago. We did half board in a hotel. There’s an excellent water park nearby that had just opened for the season and was virtually empty (no queues!). We did day trips to Knossos and Spingalonga. It was very warm and good for both beach and the pool. It was a lovely holiday

We went to Rhodes in May half term a couple of years ago; it was lovely and very warm. We booked airbnb in a small village place and it felt very greek. We rented a car to explore the island.

The airbnb is called Anastasia traditional house in Lardos. Wouldn’t mind going back but we like to explore different places.

We went to Rhodes in April. We were lucky with the weather as it's very early season and it was sunny for the whole week.

Rhodes has a lot to see especially if you are able to hire a car.

I think teens could find Kefalonia a little dull. It’s a v.quiet island imo

miamo12 · 03/01/2026 08:27

I’d book Rhodes if I were you, choose either b&b or self catering as part of the charm of Greece is finding little restaurants each night. Ixia is close to Rhodes town and less club and bar oriented

Thanks for the recommendation @justgottadoit

We had a lovely trip to Zakynthos with Tui with a 12 year old a year or so back.

MsGinaLinetti · 03/01/2026 11:44

Ooh thanks @Unichances

With teens I’d recommend zante.

Needlenardlenoo · 03/01/2026 12:19

Zakynthos and Zante are the same place for the benefit of anyone who needs to know!
