Anti-midge spray/cream/oil for trip to Isle of Skye end of June

I've been told the midges in the Highlands are something else. We're going to Skye at end of June (and I've assumed the same applies), not camping but I want to be prepared if out late with 9 month & 3 year old. Would prefer a natural product, can any one recommend anything?

i think avon skin-so-soft is generally recommended. buut i got stuff in a garage on skye in a little spray bottle that was great and natural as i recall. no idea what it was, but it'll be widely stocked. also take a citronella candle for picnics. ooooh, i DO love skye.

The avon stuff is fab, we have relatives on skye and I regularly send them up a few bottles when the Avon lady has it on special offer. (yes I know its not natural but if its a choice between not-natural or natural-and-ineffective then I'll choose the not-natural thanks)
Agree with aitch about the citronella candles, if you burn one just near (not too near!!) the tent entrance it will keep midges out.
June they might not be too bad, they get worse as the summer progresses.

It has to be the So Fresh, the green one, of the Skin So Soft spray.

We live in Argyll and don't go anywhere without it.

Lakeland sell these big citronella incense sticks that are pretty good and keeping clouds of midgies from swarming.

Mozzi off works, too.

Think it is this one avon

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/06/2008 23:55

That link not working seb

Dragonbutter · 11/06/2008 23:58

mosquito milk is the only thing that's worked for me and the midgies loooooove me.
Not natural and contains DEET.
But it bloody well works.
