Jet 2 to guarantee large hand luggage? flight only.

We are going on a city break in a couple of months time. Family of 4, Flying jet 2.

We are going hand luggage only and want to take 1 large hand luggage with us. It'll cost us £12 to guarantee that one small case stays in the cabin. Is it worth it? Or shall we just chance it? I'm planning to book a taxi on booking.com from the airport, so will have someone waiting for us. I'm a little nervous if it took a long at the carousel, as Its a huge Airport.

Anyone been flight only jet 2? Package holidays are different, as less people take the larger hand luggage.

Jet2 holidays include a luggage allowance so I find there is less of an issue with space for cabin bags

Is this for package holidays though, where, presumably everyone will have a suitcase in the hold.

If OP’s flight is full of others also doing a city break there there will not be as much space available in the cabin.

I would pay the £12.

I don’t think they differentiate- I’ve just booked this the class as a city break via jet2 holidays and it includes bags

For package holidays they do but not flights to european cities. Unless you book a city break with them, you pay extra for hold luggage.

OP clearly said it's flight only with Jet2

We haven't booked city break. Just flights. Wanted to pick our own accommodation.

Yes but Jet 2 might also use the plane for their holiday bookings. I’d pay it for the sake of not worrying. Also sit in the middle of the plane as we prefer near the front but often find the bag bins there are full as there’s not always availability above the very front seats and people move their bags back and fill up from row 3/4

If you pay the fee to guarantee your luggage stays with you, you might also get priority boarding, OP. That's what happened with me when I flew with Easyjet last year. However I've never had to check in my hand luggage with any airline

Unlikely cause it's Rome. It'll only be city breaks but I think I'm going to just for peace of mind.

I would pay the £12 and get a taxi at the airport to take you to your accommodation rather than use booking dot com.

CeeJay81 · 02/01/2026 11:17

@AttilaTheMeerkat the only reason I'm considering booking the Taxi is because we are staying outside the center. So can't have the price guarantee. Even though it's actually the side closer to the airport. I may try and investigate further though, if it's still possible to have the price guarantee.

I know OP has booked flight only. My point was assuming the plane is a mix of flight only and people who have booked packages, there isn’t usually the same demand for overhead bin space with Jet2 in my experience.

of course if OP wants to be absolutely certain, the only way to do that is to pay.

Jet2 include hold luggage on city breaks, the amount of luggage included is very generous, in theory you could take a small bag, a large cabin case and a hold case within the allowance.

But that usually means loads of locker space in the cabin because lots of people get on with only a small bag.

I travel jet2 a lot and while I often voluntarily put my large cabin bag in the hold, eg when also have hold luggage they will do this for free, its never been forced and the £12 'cabin guarantee' seems to be a waste of £12 tbh. Its rare that hold luggage hasn't been ready by the time you get to the belt anyway or within a few minutes.

I wouldn't pay it.

OP hasn't booked a city break with Jet2

Bjorkdidit · 02/01/2026 18:27

She's flying to Rome with Jet2. A lot of the other passengers will be on city break packages which likely reduces pressure on the cabin space so less of a reason why she should pay the £12, not that I see the point of the charge anyway.
