has anyone hired a campervan? If so do you have any recommendations for which website ? Thinking of going up to Scotland with the kids this year.

Hire it local to you was my friends advice.

Do not underestimate this as a “holiday”. Hire one for a weekend close to home the first time you do it before committing to longer! They aren’t the nicest vehicles to drive. Car seats are awkward in terms of which seats they can be used on. Think about when/how you’ll all go to bed in an evening and what you’ll do if the weather is bad. And everytime you want to go out you need to have everything stowed away and safely secured! Oh and once you’re out you’ll find it doesn’t fit in a standard parking space or won’t go under the height barrier of public car parks!

@MiddleAgedDreadyes you make valid points! Although we usually camp in a tent so hoping this might be a bit more luxurious. With the plan of nipping into a b&b if things get a bit difficult.

I remember one poster saying that not all the seats have 3 point or was it any seatbelts in the back!

@RandomMessoh dear! Will have to make sure there’s car seat points !

Oh it was isofix that was lacking, had to use car seats that could be fixed with seatbelts

Campervan, or do you mean Motorhome, there is a lot of difference

The other thing you need to bear in mind is that if you want to drive anywhere when you are at your destination then you need to pack up the van before you can move. Plus you have to then find a car park you can fit on. Many have barriers that prevent vans over a certain height from using them. IMO a touring caravan is much easier but not sure whether you can hire them?

We had a fabulous week in Loch Morlich near Aviemore. (motorhome not campervan!) we found it easy to drive once we got used to it. Bit noisy though!

we were lucky enough to have unseasonably good weather which helped.
