Florence: Hotel/area recommendations

Planning a last minute 4 night break to Florence in January. First time visiting so would love recommendations for hotels and/or neighbourhoods to stay in. Ideally where there's more local life and less tourist tut (unavoidable to an extent I know). Oltrarno has come up in my google searches but slightly concerned with its description as popular with students! I'm mid-50s and not looking for noisy bars. If it helps give a better idea of what I'm looking for, & you're familiar with Venice, I stayed in the Castello neighbourhood last year and absolutely loved it. A 10 minute walk to the main tourist areas but a quiet neighbourhood with small bars & restaurants, easy to walk around without being shoulder to shoulder with everyone else.

We stayed at Hotel Calimala. We loved the location, but might not be what you want. We were out of the hotel all day anyway so didn’t really matter.

Area is perfect, walking distance to everything, right side of river, just a step away from the crowds.

I really appreciated staying on the less touristy side of the river, down the hill from Piazzale Michelangelo. More authentic neighbourhoods but still only 10-15 minutes walk from the main attractions.

I've stayed a few places, my favourite was Palazzo Roselli Cecconi just off Santa Croce which is a lovely square with a few restaurants and lots of bars, very walkable but slightly out of the busiest areas. Also it's next to a perfumerie and smells amazing!

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I’m working my way through the list. They all look great tbh.
