December 2026 getaway

Hoping for some inspiration and tips!

It’s DS’s 13th birthday next December and he’s asked if he can go abroad. We usually go to Center Parcs 27-30th December as it gives his birthday a clear emphasis. We’ve never been abroad before and don’t speak any languages other than English. I’m also very allergic to tomatoes so Italy/Spain is probably difficult?!

I have no idea where to go or how long for. I don’t know what you “do” on holiday or how to explore an area.

If anyone has any ideas as to locations (happy to travel before Christmas and stay for a week or so as long as we don’t travel back on the 28th) I’d be very grateful! Neither of us like Christmas so getting away from all that madness would be a bonus!

Iceland. We had four days in early January a few years go and it was our then teen boys best ever holiday, and we’ve done lots. Did the Golden Circle tour, Blue Lagoon, Quad biking in the lava fields. Takes a bit of pre planning as the daylight hours are short, and it’s not cheap when there but certainly memorable and extremely pretty that time of year.
We booked flights and Air bnb separately and any trips through online agencies.

Have a look at Lalandia Billund in Denmark. It’s fairly similar to CP, but without the outdoor activities. It’s also very close to the Lego House, which is like an indoor, more grown-up version of Legoland

What sort of budget?

Was sort of looking around the £1k mark but could be a little bit flexible?

That could be fab. Hadn’t thought of going north (ish!). Friends went to Iceland and said it was amazing. Will see what I can find 🤞
