Great holiday for teens in August

What has been your best holiday in the summer with teens (16 and 15)? We are thinking about Vietnam but would welcome other suggestions! My dream would be travelling around Thailand but I worry the weather wouldn’t be good enough.

We booked it all ourselves. It worked out to be much cheaper and got a recommendation for a local balinese driver who did all of our transfers and trips in Bali.
We booked a gorgeous hotel on Nusa Dua for downtime. I'm glad we chose there as a lot of the more popular resorts, Ulluwatu, Canngu etc seemed over developed. Choose carefully.

Thank you @Moretwirlsandswirls - really helpful, will have a look at all these places. The cenotes really appeal!

The cenotes are super cool and very different. We stayed in a little guest house in Valladolid (sorry my spelling if these places is probably all wrong!) where there was an amazing one right in the town. We rented a car for the 2.5 weeks. We also went to Merida but it was very hot and our kids were younger so less to do, teens might like it. Very Mexican, less tourists. My husband drove the whole time and I think it had its moments but generally it was fine.

@dinhoecotour from what I’ve read you can still have a decent trip there in August? Or would you say it’s not worth it?

If you do not bother (heavy) rains, give it a go.

Borneo, The Yucatan, Flores and Komodo in Indonesia, Jordan or how about a safari?

Raindropsontourists · 06/01/2026 20:14

The choice of places with good weather in the summer is limited really. Personally I don’t want heavy rain, but others don’t mind.

We’ve been to the places mentioned and loved them, budget wise east is cheaper than west in my experience, but other great options my kids have loved include:

Namibia, Peru, Tanzania, Iceland, and Norway. We’re off to Brazil this year.

I’m not sure I’d go to some places in the Middle East in the summer though, too much heat is as debilitating as rain.

Oh yes we loved Peru too. Jordan was hot but as it was a dry heat it was bearable and things weren’t quite as busy. We had our 2nd trip to Japan last summer, not necessarily the best time to go but weather was ok and we loved it. I guess it depends on what is most important to you! We’re also off to Brazil this summer!

Totally do vietnam. We went in August and it was absolutely fine. Yes it is hot, very hot but it’s fine. We had rain twice I think. It comes down hard but then it’s over. Absolutely the best holiday ever with teens

We did Sri Lanka last August was fabulous. Monsoon in the south at that time of year but we ended up in Trincomalee for beach on east coast loved it and did amazing diving. Rest of tour was jungle, culture, safari particularly elephant, tea plantations, white water rafting (very tame) hiking. Great food, amazing hotels, wonderful people.

We took our teens to Indonesia last summer and that was a fabulous holiday. 4 days in Singapore exploring the city then down to Bali for 5 nights inland near Ubud for cycling the terraces, monkeys, temples, coffee plantations then onto Komodo for snorkelling, dragons, trekking and the wildlife before collapsing on a beautiful beach. Very reasonable cost, food was superb, friendly locals and something for everyone. Think I spent £6k all in for 4 (adults) excluding the flights.

When we went did a similar thing but instead of Singapore, we went to Indonesian Borneo on a house boat to see the orangutang. It’s a fantastic country.
