Have people been? Would you recommend? Looking for a holiday for next August
We loved Ostia this year

We went to Kotor Bay and loved it. The area is beautiful and the food was amazing! Highly recommend.

We are doing a two centre holiday in July, 4 nights in Dubrovnik, then a week in Montenegro (a seaside town called Tivat, about 10 minutes from Kotor). Never been before, looking forward to it.

Agree on Dubrovnik then head south.

Kotor is nice but small

Sveti Stefan (there was a monk monetary thing in the sea) / Tivat are nice.
Theres a nice resort is becici

Budva is v eastern European / not so 5 star

Its boiling utterly boiling in August.

Note Croatian and Montenegrans hate each other. The war is still a bit raw for many.

Ostia was hot but manageable as it was on the coast. The day we visited Rome the heat was unbearable
Think you ladies have convinced me, the pictures all look stunning too

Another vote for Kotor here, it’s beautiful. How about an Adriatic cruise? Then you could take in several countries at once.

PineappleCoconut · 29/12/2025 09:57

Love Montengro, but personally I’d avoid both Tivat and Budva. There are much nicer places to be. I usually stay in a small village in the bay of Kotor, and hire a car. Or go into the mountains.

Personally can’t think of anything worse than a cruise (too people-y!) also will have our nearly 10 year old with us

That’s fair enough, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I did feel the same until I went on one and the children enjoyed it too as there was plenty on board to entertain them.

Anywhere on the Lustica peninsula is lovely. The beaches are small and pebbly, so take beach shoes.

I’ve only been on one cruise and it was when I was just a little older than your son. It was fun for me.

I don’t like cruise ships for a myriad of reasons. I lived for many years in a cruise ship destination and they are dirty, ugly, import hundreds and thousands of people who don’t contribute to the local economy (because they eat and drink on board), an environmental disaster and a floating Petri dish. But it was fun at 11!

Following this thread with interest as we are also considering Montenegro over Croatia. How easy is it to drive around? Do you need a car to get around or is there a reliable public transport system?
