where to stay in York or surrounding area?

I need to find somewhere to stay for a week in York in July/Aug, have been browsing countless guest houses etc. online, and can't see the wood for the trees! If anyone can recommend anywhere for a week's stay please please let me know.

It's just for me - my dd will be on a residential course locally, and although she will stay with me the first night, I'll have a week to myself after that.

I can't afford a rreallly smart hotel or that type of thing, but there must be somewhere comfortable for a reasonable price? I am then planning on finding out how to spend my days pampering myself!

any pointers re accommodation would be fab (hopeful smiles)

Hi, we went to York recently and stayed in a very expensive tired looking B&B.
When walking to town noticed the brand new Travelodge, that looks fab and a few minutes from town.
I normally don't like travelodge much but that brand new one and the location, I wished we stayed there.

Have fun!

if you want a b&b there are some nice ones along a road called heworth green which is a 5-10 minute wlak ino town again, ther are also a couple fo small hotels along that road too. i used to live on the road and its very convenient for towna dn restaurants, pubs etc.
