Miami and ??

We’ve booked flights to Miami in March for 17 nights, and am planning on twin centre break but cannot decide! Current ideas include

  • Florida keys
  • costa Rica
  • Barbados
  • St Lucia
we will probably have 5 nights + 2 nights in Miami so 10ish somewhere else but it’s totally flexible currently.

it’s for my 50th so not too worried about ££, but don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts either. Thinking beaches, snorkelling, nice beach bars and food, and very much relaxing! But also I’ve always wanted to go to Costa Rica and wouldn’t mind possibly doing2 places there in addition to Miami…

head is burst with it 🤣

def recommend the Keys. Key West is a magical place.

Costa Rica! 10 days is the perfect amount of time. It’s expensive so definitely a once in a lifetime, celebration trip. And March is a great time of year there.

Not as part of the twin centre but try and visit Fort Lauderdale when you visit Miami! We loved Barbados when we went. Would you consider the Turks and Caicos?

My colleague goes to Florida Keys quite frequently and loves it. You can hire a car and do quite a bit of driving around.

I love Florida Keys & Key West in particular. It’s a nice drive from Miami. Bars, nightlife & restaurants all great. Snorkelling good there too.
However, last time I looked the hotels were extortionate, and I ended up going elsewhere. And no big beaches - there’s a few small ones dotted around.

I think I’d be tempted to add Costa Rica for something totally different.

Panama - loved it

I'd spend a few nights in Miami, then either the Keys, or drive over to Marco Island and spend a few nights there, visiting the Everglades on the way. I'd then come back to Miami and do a week to 10 days on a cruise, visiting Caribbean islands.

March/ April is Spring Break season in American universities, and Fort Lauderdale is an extremely popular Spring Break destination. I'd steer well clear.

We enjoyed the Keys. Then flew to Tampa which was lovely- Friday night market was fun. Then stayed with friends in Naples. Going back with the adult DC at Xmas.

chickensaresafehere · 07/12/2025 08:09

Key West is my favourite place! But I definitely wouldn't go in spring break.

Miami to Guatemala and/or El Salvador wouldn't be much more than a 2 hour flight - lots to see and do: nature, culture, beaches. Perhaps more adventurous but cheaper. I found CR a bit Americanized and pricey but it's all about the nature there. If you're mainly wanting to chill out one or more Caribbean islands might suit.

Jemimapuddleduk · 16/12/2025 19:26

Definitely the Florida keys!

I'm an American and grew up in Florida! It seems crazy to me to fly somewhere else once you're in Miami. The Keys are really lovely, and the drive from Miami to Key West is beautiful. Stop in Islamorada for lunch. That said - I don't think there's enough to do there for 10 nights unless you're really into fishing/boating.

SaffyWall · 17/12/2025 15:22

Anna Maria Island (but you have to promise not to tell anyone else about it - the fact that it's so unknown is part of it's charm).

Philandbill · 21/12/2025 06:32

Sanibel Island on the Gulf coast, just beautiful. About a half day drive from Miami.
