The Sa Marina in Cala D'Or is our choice. The food and accommodation are excellent. There are now two outdoor pools and an indoor heated pool that opens in October.

Flight to Palma only 2hours and about an hour transfer. Beaches are coves and can be a bit tricky if you are still using a pram but are sandy and well maintained.

We would love to go back again this year but have to go in the school holidays as ds1 starts this year and can't afford it.

sounds great - but isnt majorca too cold for Oct

The first time we went was in October and it was fine. The outdoor pool was a wee bit cold but you got used to it. Ds1 was two and a half and had a baby wetsuit thingy so he didn't feel the cold.

We don't really do the beach, too much sand!!! so it wasn't an issue for us but we did go for a paddle a few times.

We were there again last year for the middle two weeks in September, I think we flew back on the 2nd October and it was lovely. Not too hot so didn't have to worry about ds2 who was only 1 dehydrating.

Can recommend the Riu Vistamar in Playa Amadores/Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria.

Have a look on the First Choice website, although you can also book direct.

Fab hotel, short transfer, fab AI, nice location (on top of cliff so not near beach but there is an hourly shuttle bus), near to shops/bars, weather will be perfect in Oct.

We have been 3 times-love it.

We are off to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote in July.

We are going with Thompsons and staying at the Playa Flamingo - basically it is self catering but you upgrade to either Half Board (which we have) or All Inclusive. IME you can upgrade to AI when you get there if you think its worth it.

I think we had to pay underoccupancy because of the apartment - but in our experience it is worth it to have a separate bedroom from the lounge and kitchen area. It means if you do end up with your DC having an early night at least you can chill a bottle of wine and potter around.

Riu Vistamar in Playa Amadores - looks good. What was the food like and day tiem snacks?? and is there enough for a 3 year old boy to do?

Hi

Riu Vistamar-the food was the best we have ever had. After breakfast in the dining room, it is laid out again by the pool (freshly cooked, not leftovers) until lunchtime. Really wide range, lovely to have outside if you like a little lie-in with no pressure to get up for brekkie.

Lunch is a choice of dining room or outside again by the pool (gorgeous views over the ocean). Then snacks n stuff later on with yummy cakes, burgers, toasties and AMAAAAZING salads/fruits and afternoon tea at 3'ish.

Then evening meal in the dining room. Always LOADS of lovely choices, something for everyone.

For ikkle boys-great kiddie pool that you can sit round to keep a close eye (also near bar, so not far to walk for a refill . The kids clubs are fab too, the hotel animation team are brilliant. Evening kiddie disco and entertainment good too.

Drinks-everything you want. Also by the pool and in the restaurant they have self serve soft drinks, tea, yummy coffees, chocolate (kids love it), wine and beer. This drastically cuts down on any q's at the bar (we found there were none).

BTW, I don't work for the hotel!! LOL. We have just found it to be the best we have ever been to. Not cheap mind, but it is a deserved 4 star.

The beach is lovely too, safe and shallow for littlies-the sand is quite stony though so you need beach shoes. Just a 5 min trip down the cliff (scary if you hate heights!) in the courtesy bus.

Good luck.

We stayed Playa Blanca in Lanzarote too at the Iberostar there. Good with little ones as it is an aparthotel, so you have a little kitchen rather than being totally dependent on the hotel. We were half board and the buffets were really good.

This is the link on Tripadvisor.

I loved the beach at Playa Blanca - very good for little ones - warm and safe and this hotel is very close to it.

Have a lovely time wherever you land up.

Patsy

getmeouterhere - who do you book with?

OP posts:
getmeouttahere · 10/06/2008 21:13

mumma, I booked with Eclipse Direct. Yes, its expensive but we found it excellent.

Avoid school hols if you can, but cos is Canaries I find the prices don't change all that much year round (except school hols of course).

Alibobster · 11/06/2008 12:58

Bitacora in Tenerife was lovely - very clean, excellent food, family friendly - staff great with kids, I couldn't fault it

gladders · 17/06/2008 14:08

another vote for playa blance in lanzarote - we stayed at the princesa yaiza www.princesayaiza.com/home.php?lng=uk and bookd through sovereign.
beach just outside hotel - kids pool, indoor and outdoor kids play areas, can do B&B, HB or AI. near small resort and marina - both have choice of restaurants. small minimart over road and short transfer from airport - perfect!

lilyloo · 17/06/2008 14:14

We just back from Playa Blanca in Lanzarote we did apartment but it's a lovely place and lot' of nice small little beaches all along the harbour walk. As there is plenty of bars and restaraunts we took ds6 dd3 and dd5mths and they all had good time.

PictureThis · 17/06/2008 14:18

Another one for Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. We stayed at the Rubicon Palace but all the above hotels mentioned were lovely too and right by the sea. We went in January when our DD was 9mo and the weather was perfect. October should be ok too as their weather is pretty much the same year round.

geordieminx · 17/06/2008 14:29

Another vote for Playa Blanca - we went in April - was lovely and warm but with a nice breeze.

We stayed at the Rubimar Aparthotel which was great as we have ds who was only 10 months at the time - we were b and b but they do half board - they have 2 outdoor pools (one baby), and indoor one, a softplay room, gym and sauna and internet. - Its a little walk away from the main resort but in a lovely resort of its own, the Marina which is beautiful with some fab child friendly restaurants-literaly 2 mins walk - everywhere we went the waiters were giving ds sweets and biscuits and playing with him.

We passed the Princess Yaiza - looks amazing but it was twice the price that we payed for ours - there was quite a lot for kids to do but we were pleased we didnt book it as ds would have been too little.

gladders · 18/06/2008 09:53

erm. pricesa yaiza was our best holiday ever, and we went with a 3 year old and a 1 year old....

all rooms have a separate lounge and kitchenette, so we all had a bit of space.

there are play areas for each age group and both of ours loved it. there are indoor and outdoor activities plus a separate soft play area. and 3 children's pools.... plus all the normal things like internet, spa and gym.

we were VERY pleased we booked it and will be going back next year!

mumma2cjh · 18/06/2008 14:39

just had a look - looks amazing could you recommend who to book with as it looks pricey!

OP posts:
gladders · 18/06/2008 15:24

we booked through sovereign - think there's an online discount? or you can book directly - if you phone them up apparently they do a good deal if you're off peak? (will be tryin this next time!!)
